It will be the first of two twilight Sunday affairs for the high-banked oval before weekly Thursday night racing begins.<\/p>\n<p>Lee, who co-authored \u201cFifty Years of Excitement\u201d documenting Thunder Road\u2019s history, will be remembered by the New England Antique Racers with the Cho Lee Memorial Race. More than thirty vintage racecars are expected to join Thunder Road\u2019s three weekly racing divisions in Sunday\u2019s event.  <\/p>\n<p>St. Johnsbury VT\u2019s John Gammell will be in attendance to present the award for the historic racing cars. Gammell, who has been fighting cancer, is nostalgic for the opportunity.<br \/>\n <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t miss this for anything,\u201d said Gammell. \u201cIt will be great to see old friends, and such an honor to present this Cho Lee award\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Gammell, whose career began in the 1950s, has been one of Vermont\u2019s most popular drivers.  He won the 1969 Milkbowl at Thunder Road and, along with Lee, is a member of the NEAR Hall of Fame. Long-time track owner Ken Squier feels this Sunday will be a special day for Vermont racing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled that John has made himself available for Thunder Road,\u201d Squier said. \u201cAll of us who grew up around the sport here realize he is in a tough struggle these days, but he has always had a way of facing it down. The fact that he is presenting the Cho Lee award makes it that much more meaningful to the recipient,\u201d he concluded. <\/p>\n<p>Along with the Cho Lee Memorial, the three Thunder Road regular divisions will participate in championship point counting events during the Sherwin-Williams event on Sunday, June 10 starting at 4:00pm.
