Autism Families CONNECTicut Named Charity for this Year’s Royals Car Show

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (March 30) – The “Sunday Royals Garage Car Show,” the charity-driven event held each year on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend at Lime Rock Park, has named Autism Families CONNECTicut the beneficiary of this year’s show on Sunday, May 28.

The show is co-promoted by Glenn and J.R. Royals and their families, along with Skip Barber, president of Lime Rock.

The Royals car show – 2017 is the eighth annual – typically draws hundreds of wildly varied cars, trucks and motorcycles to Connecticut’s Northwest Corner. Everything from muscle cars, street rods and antiques to imports, pickups and state of the art supercars line up on the track’s famous Sam Posey Straight for the enjoyment of fans and entrants alike.

Portland, Connecticut’s Wayne Carini, well-known for his popular TV show Chasing Classic Cars on the Velocity channel, and himself the father of a daughter diagnosed with autism at an early age, has been a major supporter of Autism Families CONNECTicut since its creation in 2010.

“On behalf of Autism Families Connecticut, we couldn’t be more pleased that the Royals and Skip are blessing us with this gift,” Carini said. “This show has done wonders for other charities over the years; we hope to raise not only money, but awareness of an organization that does so much good for many people, especially children and teens, on the autism spectrum.”

Glenn Royals, proprietor of Royals Garage, Calhoun Street, Torrington, Conn., said, “It was at last year’s Labor Day Historics, when Wayne was the Honored Collector, that J.R., Skip and I came to be aware of Autism Families Connecticut and its mission. They seemed like a perfect fit for our show, and all of us are really excited to help.”

“As a local Connecticut non-profit, Autism Families CONNECTicut provides recreational and social programs for children, teens and young adults on the autism spectrum,” said Mary Helen Richer, executive director. “We believe every child should have the opportunity to have fun, make friends and participate in activities specifically designed for them. We are honored to be the beneficiary of Lime Rock Park’s ‘Sunday Royals Garage Car Show’ event, to raise awareness about autism and what AFC can offer families on the autism spectrum.”

Barber said he’s excited to help a terrific cause, adding, “There are so many great owners with great cars in this area, and so I want to tell them, ‘Bring them to this show!’”

The Sunday Royals Garage Car Show caps Lime Rock’s traditional season-opening Memorial Day weekend of May 26-27, featuring the Pirelli World Challenge.
