Twin State Street Stock Series Finale Cancelled after Multiple Postponements

Barre, VT – Thunder Road officials announced today they have elected to end the 2018 Twin State Street Stock Series season after multiple weather-related postponements of the scheduled finale. The point standings for the series are now final with Barre’s Jeffrey Martin being declared the champion.

The final Twin State Series race was originally scheduled for Saturday, October 20 as part of Speedway 51’s Octoberfast Enduro 151 event. However, that event has since been postponed twice. Speedway 51 has now rescheduled the event for Saturday, November 3, which is the same day as Thunder Road’s 2018 Banquet of Champions.

The situation was further complicated by an agreement that postseason awards would be presented by the track where the series champion regularly competes. With Thunder Road regulars occupying the top-2 spots in the standings by a comfortable margin, the rescheduling created a scenario where the track would not have sufficient time to prepare said awards. Based on all factors, officials have deemed it in the best interest of competitors to end the series schedule as-is.

“We hate cancelling events,” Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “There really are no winners when you have to cancel. But we just didn’t see a better option. We tried to work with Speedway 51 to find a solution that didn’t force our drivers to either try and do both events in one day or choose between them, but they weren’t receptive to one.”

“We apologize to all of our Twin State Street Stock competitors and fans, and we hope they understand the decision given the circumstances,” Michaud added. “We’re looking forward to honoring the top drivers at our banquet on November 3, and we wish Speedway 51 the best with their season finale.”

Jeffrey Martin won all three Twin State Series events that were contested between Thunder Road and Speedway 51, making him the clear champion. Thunder Road Street Stock Champion Stephen Martin of Craftsbury Common will rank second in the final Twin State standings, 29 behind Jeffrey Martin. Speedway 51 Street Stock Champion Kasey Beattie, Alan Birch, and Tommy “Thunder” Smith round out the top-5.
