Kate Re to be the first CHR Driver Development driver
For the last eleven years Crazy Horce Racing in South Paris ME has been a successful builder of race cars in numerous divisions. Mitch and Mickey Green, owners and operators of CHR, have seen the companies cars win to many races to count, as well as numerous championships.
Now, the company is expanding. Crazy Horse Racing is proud to announce the addition of a Driver Development program. The program is designed to give drivers the opportunity to work with an established group to improve their on track performance and move up the racing ladder. While the focus will be on younger drivers there are also opportunities for veteran drivers trying to improve their program.
“We really want to help to advance the sport” stated CHR’s Mickey Green. “There aren’t enough young people getting opportunities at the Late Model and Super Late Model level.” Green went on to say “we are just excited to see what we can do with this program and who we can help with it.”
Harrison ME PASS modified driver Kate Re has been tabbed as the first driver to join the fledgeling program. Re is an accomplished racer who looks forward to advancing up the racing ladder.
The fifteen year old hot shoe started her career in go karts at just eight years old. During her five years racing Karts she scored countless wins and was able to win four championships as well as being named the 2017 racing for a cure driver of the year on the strength of fifteen consecutive wins.
Also in 2017, Re competed in the 4-cylinder pro division at Wiscassett Speedway where she drove a full bodied car for the first time. At the end of 2017, she was awarded the divisions sportsmanship award.
In 2018 Re, and her family owned team purchased a PASS Modified and she began to compete in full sized race cars for the first time. A win and two top three finishes highlighted the 2018 season as well as a fifth place finish in the final point standings to go along with the rookie of the year award.
For 2019 its a full season of PASS Modified competition and so far the season has gone mostly according to plan Re has consistently lead laps on the way to a win and three top fives. Re looks to continue that success as well as take part in her super late model test later in 2019.
Having been chosen to be a part of the all new CHR Driver Development Program, Re has one eye on the remainder of 2019 and another on the future. When asked about the 2020 season she said “I don’t really have any expectations for next season. I’m just excited to try something different and I really appreciate the opportunity.” When asked about long term goals she says “Racing a super Late Model is something I’ve been working towards since I started racing”.
When asked why Re was picked to be the first driver for this program CHR’s Mickey Green said “she has a good head on her shoulders. We are confident that she won’t drive the car above her ability or the cars ability”. He then added “She’s just a good kid who loves to race. I mean, how many 15 year old kids do you find out working on their race car in 90 plus degree heat”.
Kate’s biggest supporters throughout her career are her parents who have been behind her every step of the way. The opportunity to get behind the wheel of a CHR car is a benefit to them as they try to help there daughter advance in an extraordinarily expensive sport. “Without this deal coming together we may not have been able to go super late model racing in 2020” says her father Rick. “We’ve given up a lot to get her where she’s at. Our family doesn’t go to Disney Land, we go to the race track.”
In addition to her driving duties Re will be working at the CHR shop at least one day a week to further he knowledge of the cars. She will also get the opportunity to expand her fabrication skills as well as gaining invaluable set-up and car prep experience.
