Bourgeois Rolls to Third Straight Win in 7-Eleven Dwarf Car Special
N. Woodstock, NH — St. Johnsbury, VT’s Colby Bourgeois made short work of his competition to win the 50-lap 7-Eleven Dwarf Car Special at N. Woodstock, NH’s White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday, August 15. It was the third straight win for Bourgeois and his fourth of the year on 7-Eleven of Lincoln Night.
Bourgeois, who entered the night as co-point leader with Easton, NH’s Jason Wyman, rolled off 10th for the main event. However, the youngster needed just five laps to carve through the field. After slicing and dicing his way to the runner-up spot, he flew around the outside of Gilmanton, NH’s Tommy Smithers to grab the lead on the sixth go-around.
“Downtown” Bobby Brown of Lincoln, NH followed Bourgeois up the outside into the runner-up spot, and after a yellow on lap 13 for Paul Marsan’s backstretch spin, Brown stayed glued to Bourgeois’s back bumper until a competition caution on lap 25 for teams to refuel their cars. Meanwhile, despite getting stuck in traffic early, Wyman was able to find a hole and move into the third spot by the time the yellow flew.
When the race resumed, Bourgeois easily handled the two veterans. Wyman was able to get around Brown for second and gave chase as best he could, But Bourgeois kept his teammate at arm’s length to complete a perfect night after also winning his heat race.
Brown completed the podium followed by Dave Gyger and Chad Dufour. Marsan, Jeff Ainsworth, Lucas Nast, Jeremy Lebrecque, and Tim Sherman Sr. rounded out the top-10.
South Barre, VT’s Mike “Beetle” Bailey outran the best of the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models on his way to the win in their main event. Bailey started eighth in the special 57-lap event and, after dodging an opening lap wreck that eliminated Shane Hawthorne, Jon Savage, and Jeff Marshall, quickly went to work.
The veteran grabbed the lead shortly before another crash on lap 20 that collected Gabe Brown, Christian Laflamme, and Allie Menard. Bailey chose the outside for the restart and got the jump over Craftsbury Common’s Joel Hodgdon. Eight-time champion Quinny Welch followed Bailey around for second, but somewhat surprisingly, it was Bailey who pulled out to a straightaway lead as Welch got locked in a battle with Hodgdon, Stacy Cahoon, and Sammy Gooden.
Two late cautions on laps 42 and 50 — one when Menard and Joey Laquerre tangled in turn three, and other when Gooden and Matthew Morrill got together on the frontstretch — allowed the top guns to take their shots at Bailey. The Beetle was strong enough for all of them, though, and tsnapped a long winless drought in Late Model competition.
Welch took second with Hodgdon third. Cahoon finished fourth but gained ground on Welch when he made the semi-feature and the point leader did not. Oren Remick, Andy Hill, Jerry Lesage, Laquerre, Menard, and Gooden completed the top-10.
Bethlehem, NH’s Dustin Jackson rolled to his second win of the year in the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini’s. The defending champion, who recently returned to competition after taking the first part of the year off, started eighth in the 32-lap feature and slowly but surely drove through the field.
Jackson jumped from fourth to second on a lap-13 restart after Jody Sicard went head-on into the backstretch wall. Then, in a battle of former champions, he outdueled Sicard’s brother Adam to snatch the top spot with 12 laps to go.
Littleton, NH’s Tyler Thompson gave chase in the homestretch but had to settle for second. Dustin’s father Brett Jackson maintained his point lead with a third-place finish. Sicard, Jack Hayes, Jamie Ball, Tim Corey, Joe Giddings, Les Washburn, and Kerri Driscoll came fourth through 10th.
McKenna Merchant sped to her first career win in the Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Trucks. Merchant started outside pole for the 22-lap feature and snatched the top spot from Logan Farnsworth at the drop of the green.
She then quickly pulled away from the rest of the field. By the time Gilmanton, NH’s Thomas Smithers VI had navigated his way to second from the rear, Merchant had nearly a half-track lead. Smithers was gaining as the laps wound down but ran out of time as Merchant carried the checkered flag. Glover, VT’s Owen Rogers completed the top-three.
The Jon Parks Tractor Triple Crown Series is up for round two at White Mountain Motorsports Park next Saturday, August 22 with a 75-lap main event for the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers. The GoMotorsportsShop.com NELCAR Legends Tour also returns for their third visit of the year. The Foley Oil & Propane Late Models, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Mini’s, and Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Trucks round out the card. Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).
