This weekend’s Würth 400 race at Dover Motor Speedway promises to be an exciting event, with 400 laps (400 miles) and three stages that break down into 120 laps, 130 laps, and 150 laps. The on-track action will begin on Saturday, April 29 with practice and qualifying sessions.
Over the last 18 NASCAR Cup Series races at Dover Motor Speedway, only three teams have visited Victory Lane. Hendrick Motorsports has nine wins, Joe Gibbs Racing has five, and Stewart-Haas Racing has four. Chase Elliott won last year’s race for Hendrick Motorsports, the team’s 22nd victory at the track. Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing have also had success at Dover in recent years.
Defending Dover winner Chase Elliott is still searching for his first win of the 2023 season. In 12 starts at Dover, he has collected one pole, two wins, and nine top-five finishes. Taming the concrete mile at Dover has come naturally for Elliott, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to secure a win this weekend.
The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season has been highly competitive, with an average of 11.3 lap leaders per race and 33 different drivers leading laps in the first 10 races. The season has also produced an average of 23.2 lead changes per race and an average Margin of Victory of 1.604 seconds.
Seven drivers have already earned their spot in the playoffs by virtue of a win, with nine spots still up for grabs. Last season, 19 different drivers visited Victory Lane, and 12 of them are still searching for their first win of the 2023 season. Ross Chastain currently holds the biggest points cushion between himself and the playoff cutoff, and he will be a contender at Dover this weekend after finishing third in last year’s race.
