WATERFORD — Todd Owen kept digging and digging Saturday night until he finally struck gold.

The Somers driver made several attempts to dive-bomb underneath Rob Janovic Jr. of Waterford during the first half of the 40-lap SK Modified feature at the New London Waterford Speedbowl.

With 18 laps remaining, however, Owen got a dazzling run off turn 4 and swooped underneath Janovic in turn 1 to move into the lead. He maintained it the rest of the way to grab his second feature of the season. (more…)

WATERFORD — When Colin Haley finished fourth in a Legends race earlier this season at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, his dad said it felt like a victory, based on all the hard work the race team put in this season.
Haley proved Wednesday he no longer has to settle for moral victories. He took the lead on a restart with Mason Levesque with nine laps remaining to secure his first-ever Speedbowl win, one of the highlights of Wild and Wacky Wednesday at the Speedbowl. (more…)

WATERFORD — Kyle James didn’t plan on taking the lead in the SK Modified 80-lap Blast off as quickly as he did Saturday.
His car, however, was too good to hold back.

It took James only 13 laps to go from fifth to first as he dominated the Blast Off, grabbing a first-place purse in excess of $4,000.
Peter Bennett, meanwhile, grabbed the biggest Legends win of his career as he collected a win in the Summer Showdown. The win was worth $2,020. Bennett finished second on the track, but was awarded the victory when Alex McCollum was disqualified after post-race inspection.
Other winners included Steven Chapman of Ellington in the SK Lite Modifieds in his first-ever race, Charles Canfield in the Mini Stocks, point leader Shawn Gaedeke in the Sportsman feature and Todd Taylor in the Speedbowl Truck feature.

WATERFORD — When a race has a purse of $2,000 to win, people are going to notice it — especially past champions.
Jason Palmer, the four-time Legends champ at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, has noticed it. Joey Ternullo, the 2015 Wednesday night champ, has noticed. So has Cory DiMatteo, the 2015 Saturday champ.

Those are some of the drivers expected to be on hand Saturday for the 35-lap Summer Showdown, the most lucrative race of the Legends car season at the Speedbowl.

WATERFORD — Steven Olsen knew he had some firepower to throw at the field in Wednesday’s X-Car race at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. He just didn’t know how much.

Olsen, however, had enough speed to get by Josh Cicio with eight laps to go en route to his first-ever X-Car win.

On other action on Wild and Wacky Wednesday, Marc Shafer survived an assault from Dave Yardley over the final two laps to land his second straight Super-X car win, John O’Sullivan held off Peter Bennett and Mike Blaskey to win a rain-shortened Legends feature. And Maddie Harkin charged back into the winner’s circle with a dominating performance in the Bandolero feature.
