JUSTIN BONSIGNORE RALLIES FROM MID-RACE TROUBLE TO FINISH THIRD AT RIVERHEAD RACEWAY

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Justin Bonsignore rallied from some mid-race trouble to capture a solid third-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200 at Riverhead Raceway. The race, postponed one day due to weather, started well for the Holtsville, New York, native. Bonsignore won his 17th career Mayhew Tools pole in qualifying on Saturday — which was also his third of the year — and paced the first 49 laps of the race out front.

After losing the top spot, Bonsignore settled inside the top-five and began preparing to save his equipment for a run at the finish — however, slight contact forced Bonsignore to mistakenly hit the kill switch inside the car, shutting the No. 51 Phoenix Communications Modified off briefly, and pushing him outside the top-10. The remainder of the race was spent navigating through traffic and working back into the top-five en route to the third-place finish.

By Souza Media/Kyle Souza

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby rocketed to his second straight victory at Riverhead Raceway on Sunday, June 20, to cap what was a remarkable week for the Connecticut native.

Coby won the inaugural Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event at Stafford Motor Speedway on June 12, then announced his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut will take place for GMS Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway in September.

On Sunday, in the Buzz Chew Chevrolet Cadillac 200 at Riverhead — a race postponed one day due to weather — Coby dominated — leading 149 laps en route to his 31st career Whelen Modified Tour win. The victory tied Coby with Jeff Fuller for fifth on the all-time wins list and started a streak at the one track where victory eluded him for so many years.

Doug Coby to Compete for GMS Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway

STATESVILLE, N.C. (June 18, 2021) – Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Doug Coby will pilot the No. 24 Chevrolet Silverado for GMS Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway in September.

“I’m really thankful to have the opportunity to drive for a winning team like GMS Racing at Bristol,” said Coby. “My racing career has been filled with chance meetings where I come across someone who ends up opening another door for me, and last weekend’s SRX event at Stafford with Mike (Beam) was another one of those cases. For Mike to leave the event and speak with Maury Gallagher about putting me in one of their trucks at Bristol is phenomenal and I’m grateful for the opportunity to prove myself in the Camping World Truck Series. I’m really looking forward to working with all the guys on the 24 team at one of my favorite tracks. It doesn’t get any better than Bristol!”

MILFORD, Conn. — While Doug Coby Racing owner Doug Coby competes at Stafford Motor Speedway in the SRX Series on Saturday, June 12, the rest of the team will head to round five of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season at Oswego Speedway for the Steel Palace 150.

With rising star Chase Dowling behind the wheel, the No. 10 Mayhew Tools machine will roll around the .625-mile Oswego oval in search of victory. Dowling and the team will be looking to maintain DCR’s spot in the owners championship standings — as Coby will not receive driver points for the race. A strong run will keep the team near the top of the owners championship, which is separate from the drivers title during the season.

Doug Coby Racing crew chief Phil Moran is excited to work with Dowling at the New York oval. In the last four appearances at Oswego, the team has finished sixth or better in all events.
