Baker, Gibbs, Labonte, Stewart, Wilson Officially Enshrined

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2020) – Five of NASCAR’s legendary competitors – three drivers, an owner and an engine builder/crew chief – were enshrined into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, tonight during the Induction Ceremony held in the Crown Ball Room at the Charlotte Convention Center.
Buddy Baker, Joe Gibbs, Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart and Waddell Wilson comprise the 11th Class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame – now home to 55 inductees.
Standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall, Buddy Baker was known as “The Gentle Giant.” During a test at Talladega in 1970, he became the first driver to eclipse 200 MPH on a closed course. Baker won the 1980 DAYTONA 500 with an average race speed of 177.602 MPH – a track record that still stands. He won 19 NASCAR Cup Series races, including the 1970 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway where he lapped the entire field. He also won consecutive World 600s at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1972-73.

INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 – John Andretti, one of the most popular and versatile American race drivers of his generation, died Thursday, Jan. 30 after a long, courageous battle with colon cancer. He was 56.
Andretti, a member of the famed Andretti racing family, drove and won at the highest levels of North American motorsports in Indy cars, stock cars and sports cars. He also competed in top-level drag racing and short-track open-wheel racing. His career included 12 starts in the Indianapolis 500 and 11 starts in the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
But his tireless, selfless work on behalf of various charities, even after his cancer diagnosis became public in April 2017, earned him even more respect and loyalty from a legion of worldwide admirers than his significant talent behind the wheel.

46th Annual Icebreaker Set For April 4-5
THOMPSON, Conn. — Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park revealed a six-race NASCAR Weekly Series schedule for the 2020 season on Monday.
The 2020 slate consists of three major staple events, and three more events that will spotlight NASCAR Weekly Series competitors as part of mid-week, Wednesday night specials in the heart of the summer.
The season begins with the 46th annual Icebreaker weekend (April 4-5) and ends with the 58th annual Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing, with three packed days, October 9-11.
