Feature winners for Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank night at the Ridge: James Fadden in the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Jeff Robbins in the DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, Robbie Willams in the C.A. Miller Limited Late Models, Chris Murray in the LaValley Building Supply Dirt Stockers, Kevin LaForest wins feature one and Zach Audet wins feature two in the Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders, and Floyd Billington in the WYKR Sprint Cars of New England.
Double points had everyone pretty much tending to their knitting, which proved for some great racing as everyone strove to get their way to the front. Jerremy Huntoon got the lead on the start but as the race progressed found himself falling back due to mechanical problems, watching yet another opportunity pass him by for a victory lane finish. James Fadden no stranger to the struggles of making it to victory lane, found the stars aligned for him as he came from the fourth row under green flag racing to the front. He would score his first win in the five years he has been racing in the DIRTcar Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modifieds. Jordan Fornwalt and Jason Gray joined him in victor lane with Matt Lashua and Richie Simmons completing the top five.
Drellos Streaks to Four Straight Wins at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
White, 11, sets new mark as youngest winner in history
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Demetrios Drellos is almost beginning to appear superhuman at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. The Queensbury, N.Y., racer – known as “The Greek Streak” – extended his own streak to four consecutive victories on The Stove Depot Night, Saturday, September 19. Other big moments during the night included wins for Todd Stone, Anthony Warren, Cam Gadue, and Tim Simonds, and 11-year-old Kaidin White reset the record as the youngest feature winner in Devil’s Bowl’s 54-season history.
Drellos scored his win in the 30-lap feature for the Pepsi Sportsman Modified division, but it looked as though young Michael Wagner-Fitzgerald was headed for a career-first win. Wagner-Fitzgerald battled early with veteran Mike Palmer before getting away with the lead on the fifth lap. He built a sizeable advantage over rookie Justin Stone, and he was seven laps away when a caution flag flew.
Justin Comes Officially Named 2020 King of Dirt Racing Champion
Schedule cut short by pandemic-related cancellations
RUTLAND, Vt. – There is a new King of Dirt Racing: Justin Comes. The Middlebury, Vt., driver has officially been named the champion for the 2020 King of Dirt Racing (KOD) Crate Modified Series, following a season that saw the tour’s schedule drastically abbreviated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The original KOD schedule contained five dates, though only two events at Devil’s Bowl Speedway were completed. Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y., has announced that it will not be holding its event planned for September 25 due to ongoing pandemic restrictions in New York State; that event was scheduled to be the final KOD race. Other events planned for The Flat Track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and New York’s Fonda Speedway had previously been cancelled.
Corliss Wins Second Straight Title in Style on Barre Granite Association Night
Bouchard Wins Tiger 100 While Woodard Clinches Record Fourth Championship
Barre, VT — Hometown racer Jason Corliss left absolutely no doubt about who would be the 2020 Thunder Road “King of the Road” by winning the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model feature Friday, September 18 on Barre Granite Association Night. Corliss took the lead from Danville’s Tyler Cahoon on lap 42 of the 61-lap anniversary main event and held on the rest of the way to secure his second straight track championship.
The veteran started the main event 13th needing only a 14th-place effort to clinch the championship. Knowing the situation, Corliss stayed calm early, waiting out the mid-pack traffic as Cahoon ran away off the outside pole.
Once the holes opened, though, Corliss went to work filling them. He moved into the fifth position on lap 17, then swung around fellow Barre driver Jim “Boomer” Morris for fourth not long after. It took some time for Corliss to run down Marcel J. Gravel and Brendan Moodie in second and third, but once he did, he quickly dispatched of both to hold second just past the halfway point.
Thunder Road Crowning 2020 Champions This Friday at Barre Granite Night
Late Model 61, Flying Tiger 100 Highlight Special Friday Show
Barre, VT — The 2020 regular season at Barre’s Thunder Road draws the curtains this Friday, September 18 with Barre Granite Association Championship Night. Four titles will be awarded in a packed card that features extra-distance racing for all of Thunder Road’s weekly divisions.
The night concludes with a 61-lap finale for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models in honor of the track’s 61st season. Whoever stands on top of the point standings after those pulse-pound laps will receive the “King of the Road” crown, joining a list that includes some of the most famous names in Northeast motorsports.
For many, though, the headliner is the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers. A field of nearly 40 drivers is anticipated for the 100-lap, $1,000-to-win finale of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series.
