Todd Owen managed to pull off a significant upset at Thompson Speedway on Wednesday, capturing the victory in the Sunoco Modified feature. This win marks the first time a driver has taken the lead in this specific class at the Thompson facility during the 2026 season.
The competition was fierce, especially against the division's reigning champion, Keith Rocco, who had already secured the first three wins of the season. Owen made his move early on, passing Rocco for the lead on lap 11 and successfully held off challenges throughout the remainder of the race.
Despite the battle for the top spot, the race featured strong performances from other drivers. Bryan Narducci of Colchester managed to rally from an earlier incident, ultimately securing a podium finish by passing Danny Cates for third place with about 15 laps remaining.
Both Owen and Rocco acknowledged the intensity of the contest, noting that consistency was key over the 50-lap distance. While Owen celebrated his victory, Rocco admitted that adjustments made for the longer race proved challenging, highlighting the tight nature of the competition at Thompson Speedway.
