Riverhead Raceway management made the difficult decision to cancel racing scheduled for Saturday, citing unfavorable weather forecasts. The cancellation affected events including the Two for TK Twin 9 Figure Eight races and the School Bus Demolition Derby.
The primary reason for the call came from local forecasts and weather applications, which indicated an 89% chance of severe storms expected between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM Saturday. Despite the decision, management expressed frustration over losing their fourth show in the first ten weeks of the season.
The School Bus Demolition Derby will be rescheduled and presented as part of the Ollie's Bargain Basement I Love American Night Fireworks extravaganza on August 8th. Management, along with Erin Larsen-Delaney, will announce the new dates for the Two for TK Twin 9 Figure Eight events shortly.
Despite the Saturday cancellation, racing remains scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Friday features NASCAR Local Racing Series events including Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds and Street Stocks, while Saturday is set to host the second attempt at the Oval Speed Bubba 150 for the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds.
