D.J. Shaw crashed the party Saturday evening at Monadnock Speedway to take his second straight and 14th career victory with the Granite State Pro Stock Series presented by Hudson International Speedway.
Shaw, from Center Conway, N.H., found a path past a dominant Tom Carey III in the closing laps to muzzle “Mad Dog” and secure his third GSPSS win at the thrilling high-banked quarter-mile.
Carey, who celebrated his birthday Saturday, hoped to earn a double celebration at the end of the night. Starting out front, “TC3” put on a clinic on his family’s old home track, hunting for his first career GSPSS victory.
But Carey’s car began to fade late, with plenty of time for Shaw to capitalize. The veteran Shaw reeled Carey in and made the pass, never looking back en route to victory.
With a wire-to-wire victory at Claremont Motorsports Park two weeks ago, the series’ all-time win leader picked up back-to-back victories for the first time since 2022, a couplet that also included a Monadnock win.
Cory Casagrande finished second to Shaw for the second straight race, picking off Carey in the closing circuits. Carey held on for a career-best third-place run under the GSPSS banner.
Joey Polewarczyk was fourth at the stripe. With his win at Seekonk Speedway earlier in the month, the 2020 GSPSS champion clinched the MDP Motorsports Promotions Triple Crown, pocketing a bonus for his run of success. Casagrande finished second in the Triple Crown, ahead of Carey.
Defending race winner and reigning GSPSS champ Cole Robie returned to the series at the speedway where he picked up his first career win a year ago, finishing fifth.
Next up for the Granite State Pro Stock Series is a trip to its presenting sponsor, Hudson International Speedway, for the annual Gate City Classic this coming Sunday, August 2. Details on the Sunday-evening spectacle will be released shortly.
