Riverhead Raceway is hosting an action-packed doubleheader weekend featuring both NASCAR racing and the highly anticipated Day of Destruction spectacle. The event kicks off Friday, July 31st, with the NASCAR Local Racing Series powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts, showcasing the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds. Saturday will feature the spectacular School Bus Demolition Derby as part of the Day of Destruction.
The Modifieds competition saw intense action on Friday as the series featured a 50-lap feature event. Mark Stewart of Riverhead managed to inch out to a two-point lead over Owen Grennan of Glen Cove, with a margin of 266-264. The battle for third place in the NASCAR Modified ranking remained tight among drivers like Matt Brode, Chris Young, and Chase Grennan.
Beyond the Modifieds, other classes also saw competition. Late Models returned for a 25-lap feature, with veteran Dave Brigati of Calverton leading the championship chase. In Street Stocks, Brandon Hubbard of Mastic secured a recent victory, while Chris Lescenski of Riverhead was also noted as a winner in the class.
Saturday evening promises even more mayhem with the Day of Destruction. This event includes the first-ever Trailer Race and Flag Pole race, alongside returning One-on-One Spectator Drags. The main attraction is the School Bus Demolition Derby, where vehicles including Frank “The Tank” Dumicich Jr., Ryan Zukowski, and others will compete in an all-out war.
