ROCCO DOMINATES SK MODIFIEDS(R) FROM WIRE TO WIRE; RACCIO and AVELLAR PICK UP FIRST WINS
WATERFORD - Adam Gada couldn't hold off Keith Rocco at the start of the SK Modifieds(R), and as the field swallowed him up, Anthony Flannery would put the bumper on Rocco for the lead. Flannery kept poking high while Timmy Jordan tried low to shuffle the front pack, but neither could prevail. Jon Puleo was riding his hot streak and carved through the field, picking off both Flannery and Jordan around halfway, but gaining the lead was a different story. Their battle allowed Rocco to build a bit of a safety net to go on and win for the first time this season, breaking Puleo's streak. Flannery was able to hang on for third.
Lap 1 of the SK Lights sent Kevin Davis from a top 5 starting spot to the rear of the field. Anthony Raccio and Milania Shilosky then put on a battle for the lead for a handful of laps until the caution flew once more. Raccio cleared Shilosky putting her in a battle with Ian Nunes, but Nunes would then see the front straight wall with Riley Paul, eliminating Raccio's big lead. He and Shilosky would drag race once more but her car went through the infield grass, narrowly avoiding a rain puddle but kept going to keep the race green. Late Model regular Derryck Anderson Jr hopped in a car for the first time and as he moved his way to the front and set his sights on Raccio's bumper, time would run out giving Raccio his first win in the division and at the track.
Jon Porter shot off the front row of the Street Stocks over Bill Rheaume but had to quicky contest with Chad Baxter. Porter held his car down low as Baxter made it look easy going around the outside for the lead, and Al Stone III slipped by low for second. The battle for fourth got dicey with Doug Curry, Jake Caprio, Aaron Plemons, and Matt Lowinski-Loh. Lowinski-Loh worked hard from his deep starting spot to move up and land on the podium as Baxter went on to easily win for the fourth time this season.
TJ Sansoucy rode his heat race win momentum into the Legend Car feature, firing off to a big lead while Dylan Freeman and Aiden Kimmer dueled for second. Within the first five laps, Freeman won the battle and ate away at Sansoucy's lead but the caution would fly by lap 6. Sansoucy took off once again but this time he had Freeman and Ethan Avellar all over his back bumper. Just a few laps later Avellar slipped by and took possession of the lead for what would be the last lead change of the event. He built up a half-straightaway lead that was erased with a four-to-go caution and for the first time in his career he kept ahead to win for the first time at the Speedbowl.
Attrition crippled the Crown Vic field before the green flag even flew for the race. The cream still rose to the top as Jack Emerson fired off to a quick and early lead. Jake Caprio tried a 3-wide move on lap 1 but had to slip in behind Robert Jones. The field strung out with Emerson going on to win by a large margin over Jones, who had a large gap over a battle between Caprio and Dylan Cabral for third.
On Thursday, Christian Herman broke the consecutive X-Car win streak with 6 in a row. Elias Dib picked up his first career win in the Bandoleros. Bill Reiman doubled up in the Super X-Cars and Jacob Burns cruised to another Legend Car win, breaking at the finish.
