Cameron Sontag, once a weekly fixture in Mini Stock victory lane, made a rare visit to the high banks Saturday, blasting off from row six to lead the last 31 laps of Saturday’s special 50-lap feature as he scored his first win of the summer.
Kimmy Rivet won her second Modified main event of the season Saturday at Monadnock Speedway. Rivet wasn’t the only hot shoe putting the large crowd on the edge of its seats Saturday. Robert Hagar did the same, storming to victory in the night’s Limited Late Model feature.
Michael Yeaton, after a few close misses in recent weeks, put it all together Saturday, winning his fifth 2026 Pure Stock main event.
In the youth division Young Guns, 14-year-old Tyler LeBlanc, in only his second career outing, won Saturday’s 15-lap feature. Top 603 Mini Cup points man Kendall Whitehill, helped his 2026 championship quest by winning for the second time this summer at Monadnock.
Kevin Clayton and Pat Houle set a fast pace early in the Keene Towing and Recovery Mini Stocks, but it was Cameron Sontag returning for the first time this season, from row six in the deep 19-car field that had the fastest car on this Saturday night.
Taking the lead after a back-and-forth with Julia Kendall on lap 19, he never looked back. Tim Paquette’s last-turn blast gave him second by just a wheel over Kendall. Ckayton held on for fourth, and Nick Miller, hauling south from Berlin, NH for his first run on the high banks, raced home fifth.
Colton Martin and Kimmy Rivet, each with a 2026 feature win under their belt, sat up front as Saturday’s top event went green. Rivet jumped all over the opening lead, bringing Todd Patnode - from row two - with her.
Patnode, in his first run since a major crash nearly two months ago saw his car destroyed and the former multi-time track champ sidelined with a broken hand, stormed to the front on lap three. But Rivet wasn’t done yet. Staying glued to Patnode’s bumper, she played a waiting game. While Andrew Brousseau, Ty LeClerc, and Eddie Gomarlo battled furiously behind her for the third spot, she was relentless in her pursuit of the top prize. With two to go, she rocketed under Patnode and then held him glued to her bumper as she scored her second win of the season and third of her Modified career on the high banks. The win bumped her up to third in the 2026 points parade.
LeClerc, still looking for his first 2026 victory, was close in third, with Gomarlo and Brian Robie fourth and fifth.
Wesley Stedt, stronger every week, led the first five laps of the Twin State Truck Services Limited Late Model main event, then giving way to surprise entry Nate Wenzel. The former speedway Modified champion, his open-wheeler destroyed a week earlier in a violent main event crash, was wheeling an older LLM ride once driven to a title by his brother Tim.
And Wenzel was determined. Holding the top spot for 15 laps, as top points man JD Stockwell and Green Mountain State ace Robert Hagar fought wheel-to-wheel behind him. Stockwell blasted low into turn three on lap 20 to take charge but this one wasn’t over yet.
Wenzel’s strong run halted on lap 27, when he dropped from the race with mechanical problems. That left Hagar to fight for the lead, and the 55-year-old youngster was up to the task. Giving Stockwell a gentle tap on lap 38, he stole the show. Stockwell finished at his bumper in second. Stedt impressed in third, with Zach Zilinski and Hillary Renaud completing the top five.
There were two winners in Saturday’s Brattleboro Towing and Recovery Pure Stock main event, Michael Yeaton, who scored his fifth win of the summer, and race runner-up Jimmy Zellman, whose second-place finish moved him to the top of the points parade when rookie Josh Brigham suffered his first rough night of the season.
Pole sitter Colton Hull led early over the swarming 21-car field, with Thomas Lafayette, in his best run of the season, at his bumper. But the two row-four dancing partners, Yeaton and Zellman, soared to the top on lap 14 and sailed away. With Yeaton taking the checkers a dozen lengths ahead of Zellman, Markus O’Neil bumpered his way past Kyle Boniface in the final turn to steal third.
Boniface, a late arrival, started scratch on the 21-car field and ran strong all night to come home fourth, while Kyle Begos came from the back twice to finish fifth.
Tyler LeBlanc romped to his first career victory in the Doug’s Auto Body Young Guns. With 12-time winner Dylan Stati not in the house Saturday, this was anyone’s race, and LeBlanc, in only his second run on the high banks, was up to the task.
Maeve Barry was second in the caution-free 15-lapper, with Mason Bezio earning the third-place trophy. Quinton Perkins, who’d won the night’s heat race in his first time ever on the asphalt, was a DNS in the main event.
Kendall Whitehill, racing in the 603 Mini Cup’s Suspended division, was first under the checkers in Saturday’s 25-lap feature. Keith Chandler and Jason Romprey trophied behind him, with Mini Cup Rigid runner Joe O’Leary fourth, and Josh McGettigan fifth.
Monadnock Speedway will be silent next Saturday, August 22, as New England’s fastest quarter-mile oval pauses for its annual Summer Break weekend after 15 successful events this season. Racing will resume on the high banks on Saturday, August 29, with the 81-lap Mike Brousseau Memorial 604 Modified main event.
