Advocate Seeks Funding to Save Greenville Pickens Speedway

The historic Greenville Pickens Speedway is currently embroiled in a significant fight for survival, with Tasha Porter-Kummer leading the charge over the past three and a half years. She has spearheaded efforts to prevent the site from being redeveloped, aiming to preserve it as an active sports and entertainment facility with the right ownership group in place.

Porter-Kummer emphasizes the extreme urgency of the situation, noting that without immediate action, the track faces demolition. She stated that if funding cannot be secured quickly, developers will revert to their original plans to clear the land for industrial use, creating a very short window to secure the future of the venue.

To pursue this goal, Kummer established a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the racetrack and attracting business partners. Leveraging her business acumen, she has put together an economic impact study and has identified numerous local businesses willing to contribute pro bono work for construction and restoration. To reopen the facility, she is seeking $3.7 million in funding.

Kummer is now focused on securing an investor or partner to join her mission. Beyond the financial aspect, the effort is deeply personal, as she is fighting to secure memories and a legacy for the community that has long been tied to the Greenville Pickens Speedway.
