Dale Earnhardt Jr. offered support for Cleetus McFarland following the recent doubleheader at Berlin, emphasizing that the best way to learn how to race is by actually driving the cars. This sentiment comes as McFarland continues his pursuit of improving his race craft on the short track circuit.
McFarland was involved in the Battle at Berlin 250 and the inaugural Cleetus McFarland Late Model Series event, both held at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. During the event, McFarland experienced a challenging run, ultimately losing control with under 20 laps remaining, resulting in a spin that ended the race for both drivers.
McFarland reflected on his performance after the incident, admitting to feeling that he "sucked" and struggling to master the skills required. Despite the rough experience, Earnhardt Jr. expressed optimism, noting that the nature of short track racing involves inevitable mistakes and wrecks, which are part of the learning process.
Following the Berlin events, McFarland found further opportunities to demonstrate his ability. A little over a week later, he participated in a 75-lapper race at the same track where he ran second for a significant portion of the event, showing continued development.
