Riverhead Raceway Weather Delays Impact NASCAR and Derby Events

The 76th season of racing at Riverhead Raceway was significantly impacted by inclement weather, resulting in rainouts for both the Friday and Saturday NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O'Reilly Auto Parts programs. Track officials confirmed that the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 event was washed out for the third Friday in a row, and the School Bus Demolition Derby was also postponed.

Track officials noted that this weather disruption brought the total number of rainouts for 2026 to eight. Riverhead GM John Ellwood expressed frustration over the lost weekend, indicating that while there are statistics on winners, tracking rainouts is less common, but the number eight is certainly significant.

The School Bus Demolition Derby has been rescheduled for this Saturday, August 29th. Fans who previously purchased tickets for the Saturday rainout are permitted to use those tickets for the make-up date. This event is scheduled alongside other action, including the annual Sara Sylvester Memorial INEX Legend Race Cars National Qualifier 50.

Prior to the Saturday events, Friday, August 28th, featured the Two for TK Twin 9 Figure Eight events celebrating Tom Kraft. This Friday action also included the Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, INEX Bandoleros, and various Enduro classes, including the 8-Cylinder Enduro honoring Dwayne Sipila 66.
