Stafford Speedway hosted Maybury Back to SKool Kids night with Kids Big Wheel Races on Friday, August 21st. The kids big wheel races were won by Bradley Bennett of Stafford Springs and Memphis Genereux from Three Rivers, MA.
Marcello Rufrano was the winner of the SK Modified® feature, Wayne Coury, Jr. was the Late Model feature winner, Chris Matthew notched a second consecutive victory in the SK Light feature, and PJ Evans took down his first win of the season in the Street Stock feature. Travis Hydar won the Limited Late Model feature but he was disqualified following post-race inspection for unapproved modifications to front suspension components: sway bar, sway bar mount, upper A-frame mounts, and jacking bolt locations.
In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Tyler Chapman took the early lead at the start with Todd Owen, Marcello Rufrano, Anthony Flannery, and Ethan Durocher lined up behind him. Owen made a move to the inside of Chapman on lap-7 to take over the race lead. Chapman fit his car into second in between Owen and Rufrano in third with Flannery still fourth and Keith Rocco was now fifth as he went by Durocher on lap-9. Chapman and Owen touched in turn 4 fighting for the lead with the cars touching and spinning to bring the caution flag out.
Rufrano was the new leader back under green with Rocco, Flannery, Anthony Bello, and Andrew Molleur making up the top-5. Molleur went by Flannery on lap-11 to move into fourth place and that move allowed Glen Reen to take fifth and drop Flannery back to sixth as Rufrano continued to lead Rocco and Bello. Rocco nearly took the lead from Rufrano on lap-17 but was unable to complete the pass. With 25 laps complete, Rocco was still searching for a way to get around Rufrano for the lead with Bello, Reen, and Molleur making up the top-5. With 5 laps left to go, Rocco was still looking for a way to get around Rufrano and take over the race lead with Bello, Reen, and Molleur still making up the top-5. David Arute was sixth followed by Flannery, Jon Puleo, Mikey Flynn, and Troy Talman. Rufrano held Rocco off to the checkered flag to pick up his third win of the 2026 season. Bello finished third with Reen and Molleur rounding out the top-5.
In the 30-lap Late Model feature, Wayne Coury, Jr. streaked into the lead from the start with Josh Wood, Adam Gray, Chris Buffone, and Michael Bennett lined up behind him. Chris Meyer went by Kevin Gambcorta to move into sixth place on lap-6. With 10 laps complete, Coury was still in command with Wood in second. Buffone was applying heavy pressure to Gray for third with Bennett still in fifth place. With 10 laps to go, Coury was still leading Wood with Gray, Buffone, Bennett, and Meyer all lined up nose to tail in a 4-car train fighting for third place. Scott Davis spun coming out of turn 4 right in front of the leaders, but everyone was able to avoid Davis' car and the caution flag was displayed with 22 laps complete.
Wood took the lead on the outside of Coury but Coury came back on the inside of Wood to go back into the lead. The field completed 2 more laps before the caution came back out for a spin in turn 4 by Meyer and then the cars of Gray and Buffone got hooked together on the frontstretch and came to a stop against the wall at the entrance of turn 1. Coury took the lead on the restart with Wood losing second to Bennett one lap after the restart. Adon Burrell was up to fourth with Darrell Keane fifth. Coury led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2026 season. Bennett finished second with Wood, Burrell, and Keane rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap SK Light feature event, Bob Charland led the field to the green flag and he took the lead at the drop of the green. Tyler Barry wasted little time working his way to the outside of Charland on lap-2 and they were virtually even at the line to complete lap-2. Ben Morrison was third with Stephen Kalogiannis fourth and Chris Matthews fifth. Barry got clear into the lead on lap-3 but the caution came out with 4 laps complete for S.R. Midford, who came to a stop in turn 2 after a spin.
Barry took the lead on the restart with Kalogiannis moving into second. Charland was third in line with Morrison and Matthews behind him. Kalogiannis was starting to apply heavy pressure to Barry for the lead and they began to race side by side on lap-10 and they were still wheel to wheel when the caution came back out with 11 laps complete for Ryan Charland, who spun and came to a stop in turn 2.
Barry took the lead back under green with Matthews taking second behind him. Jason Finkbein was now side by side with Kalogiannis for third place with Robert Bloxosm, III in fifth. The caution came back out with 15 laps complete for Dylan Houghton and Ben Morrison, who came together and spun while coming out of turn 4 and racing down the frontstretch. Matthews hung strong on the outside of Barry on the restart and he actually led lap-16 by a nose. They were still side by side one lap later with Matthews again the leader by a nose before the caution flew again for Ava Lombardo, who spun in the middle of turns 3+4. Barry didn’t come up to speed on the restart as Matthews streaked into the lead, but the caution flag came right back out as Finkbein went around in turn 2, which collected the car of Nick Anglace. Matthews took the lead back under green with Barry and Bloxosm going wheel to wheel for second. Kalogiannis was fourth in line with Kevin Davis up to fifth. Bloxsom got clear into second on lap-19 and Matthews used a block on the final lap to hold Bloxsom off and take down his fourth feature win of the 2026 season. Barry finished third with Davis beating Kalogiannis to the line to finish fourth.
In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, Duane Provost took the lead at the start of the race while Norm Root, III and RJ Surdell went door to door for second with Root emerging in second after the first lap. Jeremy Lavoie was now alongside Surdell for third with Travis Hydar in fifth. Shelby Swan spun in turn 3 to bring the caution flag out with 2 laps complete. Provost again took the lead back under green with Surdell taking second. Hydar was third in line with Rich Hammann coming up to fourth and Root fifth. Hydar took second from Surdell on lap-4 and that move opened the door for Hammann to take third and Gary Patnode fourth and Surdell slid back to fifth. Kyle Theriault spun in turns 1+2 to bring the caution flag back out with 5 laps complete.
Provost took the lead on the restart while Hydar got shuffled backwards to fourth place as Hammann took second and Root took third. Lavoie was fifth behind Root with Conor Jencik in sixth place. Hydar took third place from Root on lap-9 while Provost continued to hold the race lead. The caution flag came back out with 9 laps complete for Dana Wray, Jay Sundeen, and Tyler Secore, who all spun in turn 1.
Provost took the lead on the restart with Hydar taking second from Hammann. Hammann slotted into third with Lavoie fourth and Jason Lafayette was up to fifth. Lavoie made a move to the inside of Hammann on lap-12 for third but Hammann was hanging tough in the outside lane. Hydar took the lead from Provost on lap-14 while Lavoie was finally able to get clear from Hammann to take third. Lafayette followed Lavoie by Hammann to take fourth place and drop Hammann back to fifth. The caution came back out with 16 laps complete as Surdell spun coming out of turn 4, which collected the cars of Steve Daddio, Samantha Dell, and Kyle Theriault.
Hydar streaked off into the lead back under green with Lavoie in second. Provost took second from Lavoie as the field took the white flag with Hammann taking third. Hydar took the checkered flag to win the race, but he was disqualified following post-race inspection for unapproved modifications to front suspension components: sway bar, sway bar mount, upper A-frame mounts, and jacking bolt locations. This made Provost the feature winner, his first Limited Late Model feature victory since August 30, 2019. The new top-5 was Provost, Hammann, Plemons, Lavoie, and Patnode.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, Scott Sundeen took the lead on the opening lap with PJ Evans taking second. Brent Gleason took third on lap-2 after a 3-wide move with Kolton Gambacorta and David Ciastko with Gambacorta taking fourth and Ciastko fading back to the tail end of the top-10. Ryan Waterman was up to fifth with Matthew Lowinski-Loh sixth. Evans worked his way to the inside of Sundeen to move into the lead on lap-7 with Gleason following him through to take second and drop Sundeen back to third. Waterman and Lowinski-Loh were now fourth and fifth behind Sundeen and they didn’t stay there long as Waterman took third on lap-9 and Lowinski-Loh followed right behind him to take fourth. Brandon Warren also got by Sundeen to take fifth and drop Sundeen back to sixth place. Lowinski-Loh went by Waterman to take third on lap-11 as Evans continued to lead Gleason out front. With 4 laps to go, Gleason was right behind Evans applying heavy pressure and looking to take the lead. Gleason couldn’t find a way past as Evans led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2026 season. Gleason finished second with Waterman, Warren, and Lowinski-Loh rounding out the top-5.
There were two kids big wheel races as part of the Maybury Back to SKool Kids Night festivities and the winners of those two races were Bradley Bennett of Stafford Springs and Memphis Genereux from Three Rivers, MA.
