West Haven, VT-It was Kenny Wallace Night as the fan favorite, NASCAR personality, and race car driver made his first appearance at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday night for one of the most anticipated events of the season. Wallace mingled with the fans and drivers, signed autographs, and held a question-and-answer session on the front stretch. He also raced in the “Kenny Wallace Crown Vic Showdown” against a handpicked group of Devil’s Bowl drivers and challenged the locals in a Sportsman Modified Shootout. The DirtCar 358 Modifieds were in the house as well for Twin 25-lap features in their final appearance of the summer.
In the first DirtCar 358 Modified feature, Tim Fuller drove the St. Lawrence Radiology machine to victory lane for the second consecutive time. A win in his heat race earned the veteran driver a spot at the front of the starting grid as he jumped to the lead when the green flag waved. Justin Stone and Dave Camara both attempted to challenge Fuller, but to no avail. Restarts on laps nine, 12, and 19 gave Stone multiple opportunities to steal the lead, but Fuller was just too stout. Fuller, Stone, and Camara all finished on the podium, with Mike Mahaney and Walter Hammond completing the top five.
In the second feature, Mahaney pulled off an incredible last-turn pass to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, his second win in as many nights. Frank Hoard III led the early laps before Tanner Siemons ran him down to assume the point. Siemons and Mahaney ran identical lines, forcing “Smooth Shoe” to adjust. Siemons held on until turn four, coming to the checkers when Mahaney used a dive-bomb, slide-job move to capture the thrilling win. Following Mahaney and Siemons across the line were Adam Pierson, AJ Munger, and Hammond. The win clinched the top spot in the championship race for Mahaney.
Fuller visited victory lane for the second time on the evening as he won the “Kenny Wallace Crown Vic Showdown.” Wallace started on the pole and engaged in an early battle with Stone in the race made up of 358 Modified, Sportsman Modified, and Crown Vic regulars. Fuller charged from the 10th starting spot to take the lead on lap eight of the 15-lap event and never gave it back, driving the Friend Construction entry. Stone finished second, Richie Turner third, Joey Scarborough fourth, and Brad Cram fifth. Wallace finished seventh.
Wallace strapped up again to pilot one of Vince Quenneville’s 78 cars in the Sunoco Sportsman Modified Shootout. “Herman” started at the back of the pack for the 25-lap race and had a spirited skirmish with VQ2. Tim Hodge, who has become more comfortable with the track each week since joining the Devil’s Bowl driver’s group, led the opening 20 circuits and seemed to be on his way to his first win. Meanwhile, Brian Calabrese was on the charge from the seventh starting spot. Calabrese overtook Marty Hutchins for second, then powered past Hodge on lap 23 to capture the checkers. Hodge, Scott Towslee, Hutchins, and Bryce Breault rounded out the top five.
In the 25-lap O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman Modified feature, Cody O’Brien rolled to his fourth win of 2026. O’Brien fired from the pole, outdueled William Lussier Jr. for the lead, and drove off for a convincing green-to-checkers victory. O’Brien opened up an advantage of nearly half a track over the rest of the field and was never challenged. Aiden Benoure had one of his best runs of the year with a comfortable second-place finish. Kamden Duffy, Lussier Jr., and points leader Logan Denis also registered top-five finishes.
Rookie Gage Provencher scored his sixth win of the season in the Northern Refrigeration Novice Sportsman Modified main event. Another first-year campaigner, Ben Williams led the first four laps. Provencher slipped around Williams on lap five and drove off into the night for the convincing victory. Points leader Rob Steves sliced through the pack from eighth to pick up the runner-up position. Stephen Bushey crossed the line third, James McClellan fourth, and Gavin Fluery fifth. The Novice division has the tightest race for the championship, with only 22 markers separating the top six drivers entering the night.
John Smith had been away from racing the last few weeks, but his return was a triumphant one as he claimed the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint win. Smith, from nearby Poultney, actually crossed the finish line second, but was awarded the win after Tyler Whittemore was disqualified for a weight violation after going over the post-race scales. Scott Bachand paced the field for the first 13 laps before a mechanical failure ended his night. Whittemore benefited from Bachand’s woes to lead the final seven circuits before his issue while going through tech. Andy Quenneville was second, Levi Cram third, Alex Reed fourth, and Chris Lennox fifth.
Quinton Bishop parked his 22B machine in victory lane for the first time in his career in the Low Handicap Mini Stock 15-lap feature. Dave LaBarge controlled the first 12 laps before being overcome by Bishop. A late caution gave multiple-time winner Ron Alger a chance to ruin Bishop’s party, but the young Whiting, VT driver wouldn’t be denied. Alger held on for second, followed by Jerry Jordan, Caden Stearns, and Gerard Jordan Jr.
The 20-lap High Handicap feature was a family affair, as Jeremy Brownell and Jeremy Brownell Jr. held a father-and-son feud to the finish. The duo exchanged the lead several times, sometimes more than once during a lap. Brownell Sr. finally seized control on lap 16 and squeezed out the narrow win. Brownell Jr. finished second, Jon Jordan third, Kaleb Shepard fourth, and Bert Ouellette fifth.
The action returns to Devil’s Bowl on Saturday, August 29th, with the "Charlie LaDuc Memorial 54" for the Sunoco Sportsman Modifieds presented by Brown’s Quarried Slate and Farmstand. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman, Northern Refrigeration Novice Sportsman, Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints, and Mini Stocks will also be on the card. Rounding out the night will be the Wild and Crazy 50-lap Enduro. Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. Racing is at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15. Kids 12 and under are free. Pit admission is $30 for members. $40 for non-members.
