Legendary racer Bob Polverari is making a highly anticipated return to the track, stepping back into competition at the historic Stafford Motor Speedway. After being honored as the Grand Marshal of the NAPA Spring Sizzler in 2019, the 89-year-old veteran is ready to test his skills once again on the half-mile track.
Polverari is scheduled to compete in the 20-lap Street Stock race this Friday. He will be driving a car owned by Herb Carlon, which has been renumbered as his familiar 711—a vehicle he has driven successfully across the Northeast for decades.
When asked about the experience, Polverari expressed excitement mixed with caution, noting that he is at an age where he shouldn't be doing this. He mentioned that driving the heavy vehicle is a completely new challenge, noting it is significantly heavier than anything he has raced.
The legend’s career is filled with success, including winning the 10th NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford in 1981, along with two other Modified victories in 1983 and 1984. Polverari is also celebrated for his achievements at Riverside Park Speedway, where he was a five-time Modified champion, cementing his legacy in the sport.
