The motorsports community is mourning the loss of Charlie Shaw, who passed away at the age of 90. Shaw was a deeply rooted figure in the racing world, serving as the owner and steward of the historic Winchester Speedway.
He was instrumental in preserving the track's legacy, which is renowned as the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile.” Under his leadership, Winchester Speedway continued to host major grassroots events, including the prestigious Winchester 400 for late models, as well as high-profile fixtures for USAC sprint cars and the ARCA Menards Series.
Charlie Shaw was known for his dedication to the Randolph County community and his commitment to maintaining the track’s original character while modernizing operations. Racers and fans appreciated his hands-on management style and his constant presence around the pit area, welcoming new generations to test their skills on one of the country’s most challenging tracks.
Winchester Speedway remains under the ownership of the Shaw family today, with day-to-day operations managed by loyal staff including Steve Vore, Dan and Linda Redmond, Tom Bigelow, and Randy Crist.
