Patrick Emerling has secured a commanding position in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour standings following a strong showing at Riverhead. His performance in the Eddie Partridge 206 race on Saturday demonstrated the dominance that has put him in a virtual lock on the series championship.
Emerling led 187 laps during the event, marking his fifth victory of the 2026 season. This result significantly bolstered his lead over other competitors, including reigning champion Austin Beers, who currently holds the top spot in the standings.
Emerling entered the race with an 18-point advantage over Beers. This lead is crucial as they head into the Sunoco World Series 150 at Thompson Speedway on October 11th. Emerling needs just 19 points at Thompson to clinch his first title, and a 25th place finish would secure the championship regardless of how Beers performs.
The championship picture remains tight, with Jon McKennedy sitting 47 points behind Emerling in third place. However, McKennedy is mathematically eliminated from contention if both Emerling and Beers start the Thompson event. Furthermore, if fewer than 25 cars attend the Thompson event, Emerling will automatically clinch the series championship simply by taking the green flag.
