Riverhead Raceway has announced a change to its 2026 Championship Weekend schedule after a major nor'easter threatened the region. Due to the expected heavy rain, high winds, and potential flooding, track owners Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz moved the event to Saturday, October 3rd, and Sunday, October 4th. This postponement marks the ninth and tenth rainouts of the season for the facility.
The weather disruption has affected the prestigious Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 for the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds. This race, which was previously scheduled for August 14th and August 21st, was halted by a severe summer storm. The modified race will now headline Championship Saturday, October 4th, alongside the Late Models, Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, TK Figure Eights, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks, and INEX Legend Race Cars, who will be running their final point races of 2026.
Championship Sunday features a different slate of action, focusing on endurance events. The Street Stocks and Truck Enduros will run extra distance races, sponsored by The Hot Rod Shop of Venice, Florida. The day will also host the Mini Stocks, INEX Bandoleros, 8-Cylinder Enduro, 4/6-Cylinder Enduro, and a Women's 8-Cylinder Enduro, concluding with a Kids Big Wheel Race and the JuiceBox Racers.
