Despite a promising year marked by a victory at South Boston and a debut top-five finish at Martinsville, the pairing of Lee Pulliam and JR Motorsports has faced challenges recently. Their run has not met expectations, leading them to seek a turnaround at the Martinsville 300.
The team struggled in recent events, including a 36th-place finish at the South Boston Speedway 200. This was followed by a 7th-place showing in the Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway, where teammate Caden Kvapil secured the win. Prior to Martinsville, the CARS Tour event at Tri-County Speedway on September 13 resulted in a 12th-place finish.
Pulliam attributes the difficulties partly to the limited seat time he has had with JRM, noting that the different operational styles of the teams contribute to the challenges. He emphasized that the sport is tough, with a tenth separating many cars, making every small detail crucial.
However, the Martinsville 300 remains the key opportunity to "right the ship." Pulliam is determined to fight hard for the third Martinsville clock, a goal he has pursued since a near-miss the previous year. After the event, Pulliam will transition to his NASCAR O’Riley Auto Parts Series schedule, which includes a start at Martinsville on October 3.
