Speculation is growing that Stafford Speedway may bring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour back to its schedule for 2027, potentially hosting the Spring Sizzler event.
The relationship between the Stafford Spring Sizzler and the Whelen Modified Tour has been long-standing, running as a series event from 1985 through 2021. After Stafford dropped the long-running NASCAR sanction in 2022, the division was reintroduced for a single event on August 28th, following a four-season hiatus.
Sources close to both NASCAR and Stafford Speedway indicate that negotiations are underway to return the Whelen Modified Tour to the track for two events in 2027. While Stafford Speedway Chief Operating Officer Paul Arute declined to comment on future scheduling possibilities, a NASCAR spokesperson mentioned the sanctioning body hopes to announce the 2027 schedule in the coming weeks.
The Spring Sizzler holds historical significance, having been won by Patrick Emerling during the last Whelen Modified Tour event on April 30, 2021. The series continues to build momentum as the Whelen Modified Tour wraps up its 2026 season with the Sunoco World Series 150 at Thompson Speedway.
