The 24th Annual North-South Shootout is set to debut at Southern National Motorsports Park on November 6th and 7th. Event organizers have announced the officiating team, led by track owner Michael Diaz, who has been instrumental in bringing this long-standing Modified racing tradition to Lucama. Diaz and his family have been involved in the operation of Southern National since 2011, ensuring the event maintains its legacy in a new venue.
The operational leadership includes Race Director Brian Vance, a former longtime Race Director of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, who brings decades of experience to the event. Vance works alongside Competition Director Mason Diaz. Owner Chad Kepley emphasized that the combination of experienced Modified officials and Southern National’s regular staff promises a fair and well-run competition.
The technical inspection team features several veterans. Longtime southern Modified official Robert Pettitt returns, bringing experience from Bowman Gray Stadium. He is joined by Todd Smith, a current NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour official and former Technical Director at Lancaster Motorplex. The technical inspection group is rounded out by Rick Hunter, Johnny Murfey, and Charles Lindberg.
Supporting the weekend’s action, David Casey and Christine Maki will manage timing and scoring, while Tim Hale handles flagging duties and Jim Bushee drives the pace car. The Saturday program will feature the 125-lap Tour-Type Modified feature, alongside competition from 602 Modifieds, Chargers, Legends, and Any Cars.
