HUGE PAYDAY FOR ROOKIE HOVEY in RAIN DELAYED SK MODIFIED(R) 100; FLANNERY TAKES MODIFIED TITLE; BRANDON MARTINEZ DOMINATES $3,000 TO WIN SKAKET 50 LEGEND CARS

WATERFORD - Derek Ramstrom took the lead over Justin Gaydosh to kick off the SK Modified(R) 100 lap Finale on October 4th, but just as fast Timmy Jordan got a nose under and by for the lead. An early caution gave Todd Owen a chance at the lead but contact at the front stacked the field up, giving Ramstrom second back. This gave Jordan a safe lead but also opened the door for Nickolas Hovey. Another restart while we were weather-watching and Hovey took Jordan from the outside after a brief battle. He and Jordan would pull away from a fierce challenge with Keith Rocco and Owen for third. Jon Puleo and Ethan Durocher were working their way through traffic, sending Owen back through the field and pit for adjustments. The race ran clean and green with most of the battling happening mid-pack for a number of laps. With the weather further approaching, a lap 42 caution really threw a monkey wrench into the plan. Most of the field pit for tires and adjustments, but Hovey was not one of them. After some hot laps to try and keep the track dry, Hovey then went in to get tires after everyone else, putting him at the rear of the field.

Smacktoberfest started uniquely when two weeks later when the drivers came back to close out the event. They kicked off the event before any other division competed for a quick turnaround. Puleo was now at the helm and he with Andrew Molleur pulled away from the field. Rocco slipped his way forward eventually sending the two back into traffic. On a restart, Rocco took control with Jordan in his mirror. Hovey enters the picture with 43 to go, coming from 15th to 3rd. He was able to blast by Jordan and work his way by Rocco after a brief battle, finding himself in the lead by 30 to go. Deeper in the field, Flannery found himself in trouble going around with just 15 laps on the board making his title hunt that much harder. On the restart, Rocco found himself around in Turn 2 removing him from the battle for the lead. Hovey would run away to safety each restart leaving Owen to battle with Molleur for second. It took two weeks to get to the result, but Hovey continued his dominance to win the $5,500 payday. Flannery recovered to an eighth place finish that left him just a 3 point cushion for his second title over Owen.

Twenty-seven Legend Cars showed up for the $3,000 to win Skaket Management Properties 50, and there was a definite home field advantage. Brandon Martinez started on the pole after qualifying and quickly took control of the race. Brother Zachary slipped by TJ Sansoucy and started running in Brandon's tire tracks for the lead. PJ Evans and Dylan Freeman also got by Sansoucy and lined up to set the pace. The first caution on lap 13 stacked the field back up and while Brandon drove away from the field, a three wide battle for second gave Evans a chance to better his position. The Brandon and Evans stayed side-by-side after a restart but was unable to record a lead change at the line, and the drivers would single-out once more. On a 15 to go restart, Zachary gave Brandon a battle for the lead but still couldn't take him down, and he would get thrown back into a battle with Evans and Freeman for the podium. Freeman and Zachary would cross-over time and time again for the runner up spot with Brandon safely out front. The lead would get erased on a restart with just a few laps left, but it still didn't matter. Brandon picked up the win and the huge pay day over Freeman and Zachary. Jacob Burns slipped by Evans to round out the top 5.

The last time The Speedbowl held an Open Street Stock event, Austin Erickson worked traffic and went on a dominant run to score the win. This time out, he redrew the pole after qualifying and everyone else had to fight tooth and nail to dethrone him. He took off from the field leaving Aaron Plemons and Chris Lindquist fighting for second. Ryan Lineham in his Street Stock, rather than his Truck, was engaged in the battle by lap 10 with Travis Hydar also in the mix. A caution on lap 14 brought Erickson back to the field with Lindquist and Lineham in his mirror. Lineham would clear Lindquist as he'd get dropped back to fifth, opening the door for Hydar in third. A few consecutive cautions gave Erickson a run for his money as Lineham tried to hang side-by-side on the outside, but eventually had to fall back in his tire tracks. Erickson led Lineham over the final portion of the race with Hydar having to battle his number 11 counterpart Corey Fanning for third. Through lapped traffic, Erickson picked up the dominant win over Lineham. Hydar cleared Fanning for third while Lindquist rallied back to a fourth place finish getting by Fanning late in the race.

Seventeen competitors turned out for the $1,000 to win American Rides Dash for Cash Crown Vics. Joseph Sinclair had the advantage Over Dylan Cabral at the start but Sinclair would fall back to third after he saved his car from a spin when contact occurred between the two. Derek Gluchacki slipped into second and began his attack to the outside of Cabral where they would be side by side briefly until lapped traffic sorted them out. The first caution flew on lap 12 and Gluchacki used the outside to power by Cabral once again. Ray Reed cleared his way into third and tried to have a hand in the fight but couldn't get by. A restart with 7 to go set up the closest battle for the lead with Cabral staying under Gluchacki and Reed being glued to Cabral's bumper, but that was the closest opportunity anyone had to take down Gluchacki who crossed the line first. Reed crossed the line third and as a result drew the American Rides Golden Ticket giving his purse to one lucky fan in the stands.

Adam Gray started deep in the 65 car Compact Enduro and navigated the traffic to score the win. Jim Bavolacco secured the championship with his 6th place finish. Bill Davis won the Full Size Enduro, Pete Cayer picked up the Mini Van Enduro win, Ron Stanovitch reigned supreme in the Truck Enduro, and Mini Stock regular Erica Canfield won her third Smacktoberfest Ladies Enduro in a row.
