NASCAR veteran Ryan Newman is set to compete in the historic North-South Shootout this Saturday at Southern National Motorsports Park, marking his debut in the event. While Newman has been a consistent presence in Tour Type Modified racing since retiring from NASCAR, with six career wins and a second-place points finish in the SMART Modified Tour, this particular event is his first attempt.
Newman expressed excitement about the opportunity, noting that he had attended the North-South Shootout last year at Caraway, where his daughter, Brooklyn Newman, was competing in the 602 Modified race. Despite the change in venue, Newman remains confident in his ability to adapt quickly to the track conditions, even with practice being canceled due to rain, which condensed the schedule into a single day.
The 24th Annual North-South Shootout will be held at Southern National Motorsports Park, following previous stops at Concord Speedway, Caraway, and Hickory. The action kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, featuring a variety of classes, including Legends, Chargers, Any Cars, and Vintage Modifieds & Sportsman, alongside the 75-lap 602 Modified feature and the 125-lap Tour-Type Modified main event.
Newman is also looking forward to the chance to spend the weekend racing alongside his daughter. The event provides a unique opportunity for him to race while also watching, connecting his passion for competition with his daughter's involvement in the SMART Tour and Carolina crates.
