Since its inaugural run in May 2017, the Islip 300 at Riverhead Raceway has established a reputation for producing surprise winners in the tour type Modified division. Over the past nine years, seven drivers have claimed victory in the race, which honors the former Islip Speedway, following the initial upset victory secured by Dillon Steuer of Bohemia.
The race has featured several rising stars. Ryan Preece won in 2018, followed by Kyle Soper in 2019. JB Fortin added a win in 2021, and Matt Hirschman claimed a victory in 2023. More recently, Chase Grennan became the second youngest winner in 2024, taking the win at the age of 17.
The tradition of unexpected success continued in 2025 when Joey Braun of Manorville scored a surprise victory. Braun, who was driving for Rich Gerbe, became the second driver from his team to win the Islip 300.
The 10th annual Islip 300 is scheduled for November 14th, with a $12,000 prize awaiting the winning team. The event features various classes, including Eagle Chevrolet Crate Modifieds, INEX Legend Race Cars, and Street Stocks.
