Jeff Huntington Garners his first Win This Season in the Sportsman Modifieds

Jeff Huntington took his first win of the season in the O’Reilley Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series topping the Peanut’s Auto Sportsman Modifieds and Erin Aiken claimed win number three in the Rand’s Hardware Mini Stocks. The Sprint Cars of New England were on hand with Clay Dow taking the win. The Granite State Mini Sprints saw Tom Chaffee best in the 500cc class with Drew Eldridge tops in the 600cc division.

Ricky Sanville blasted into the lead when the green flag flew in the Peanut’s Auto Sportsman Modifieds with rookie Wayland Childs settling into second. While Child’s was fending off the advances of Jeff Huntington, Sanville continued to stretch his lead. Huntington finally was able to garner second from Childs with sixteen laps complete and brought Todd Buckwold to third with him. Just one lap later disaster struck for leader Ricky Sanville as the car coasted to a stop at the top of turn three in a massive cloud of steam, a victim of a broken radiator. Jeff Huntington assumed the lead and led the rest of the event to take the win, his first of the season. Todd Buckwold was second T.C. Forward third. Ryan Christian and Wayland Childs completed the top five.

When the Rand’s Hardware Mini Stocks took the green defending Champion Rich Willey took the lead from pole sitter Tim St. John. Mike McClay and St. John then engaged in a torrid battle for second with McClay eventually taking the spot, and then moving to the lead on lap seven. His lead only lasted two laps before Willey was able to reassume the top spot. The caution flew a lap later for Jason Gaudette and on the restart Erin Aiken nabbed the lead, she survived another caution and went on to take the win, her third of the season. Rich Willey was second with Tim St. John third, Mike McClay fourth and David Flanders fifth.

The Sprint Cars of New England made their first appearance of the season Friday night with Clay Dow leading the entire way to take the win. While he was never really challenged for the lead in the caution free event, the battle for second was epic. Dennis McLeod held the spot for the first half of the event, turning back the advances of Sprint Car Rookie Jordan Fornwalt, who finally moved to second just past the halfway point. Meanwhile Matt Hoyt was working his way toward the front after starting deep in the field, advancing to third with seven laps to go. Hoyt started to pressure Fornwalt and finally garnered second with a thrilling last lap out of turn four pass to take the spot at the line. So Clay Dow took the win with Matt Hoyt second and Jordan Fornwalt third. Will Hull and Dennis McLeod rounded out the top five.

The Granite State Mini Sprints were also on hand with Tom Chaffee taking the win in the 500cc class, besting his son Riley Chaffee with William Pinkham SR third. The 600cc class saw Drew Eldridge take the win over Zach Herbert and Tyler Jones.
