T.C. Forward Claims the Sportsman Modified Victory

After Raining out three of the last four weeks the cars and stars of O’Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series were finally back in action Friday night under a nearly full moon. The Peanut’s Auto Sportsman Modifieds found T.C. Forward grace victory lane for the second time this season with Kelly Miller Sr topping the overall in the twin 20’s for the Homestead Creation Late Model Sportsman. The Rand’s Hardware Mini Stocks saw David Flanders come out on top of a hard fought battle to take the win and the visiting Wingless Auto Group found veteran Mark Cole take the laurels.

The Peanut’s Auto Sportsman Modified Main event started with a bang as the caution came out for a turn one altercation right after the green flag flew. When racing resumed T.C. Forward assumed the lead and checked out on the rest of the field with Lenny Pillsbury settling into second. Caution flew again on lap nine for Trevor Randlett, who encountered problems in turn four, his night done. On the restart Pillsbury got the jump and blasted into the top spot but yet another caution flew only two laps later for a three car pileup on the front stretch. When racing resumed this time Forward got the jump and reassumed the lead. The rest of the event went caution free with T.C. Forward claiming his second win of the season. Lenny Pillsbury was second with Todd Buckwold third, Matt Lashua fourth and current points leader Jeff Huntington fifth.

It was Twin 20 lap segments for the Homestead Creation Late Model Sportsman with the lowest overall score from the two segments combined determining the winner. The first segment saw Matt Pike claim the win with Kelly Miller Sr returning from an early race incident to finish second and early race leader Scott Heath third. The second segment saw Travis Smith lead the entire way for the win with Kelly Miller Sr once again second and Matt Pike third. The overall finish saw Kelly Miller Sr and Matt Pike tie for the win with Kelly Miller Sr getting nod for victory by virtue of finishing ahead of Pike in the last segment. Matt Pike was second with Travis Smith third. Scott Heath and Bob Crawford completed the top five.

The Rand’s Hardware Mini stocks put on a great show with a nearly race long battle for the lead. Jack Cook took the top spot at the drop of the green and held it until the first caution of the event on lap five. On the restart Tim St. John powered into the lead, bringing David Flanders to second with him. The duo ran side by side for the lead for a number of laps until the caution flew once again for the disabled machine of Mike McClay. On the restart Flanders got the jump and assumed the lead but not without constant pressure from St. John the rest of the way. At the checkers it was David Flanders picking up his first win of the season with Tim St. John second and points leader Erin Aiken third. Sean Lantas and Jack Cook rounded out the top five.

The Wingless Auto Club was also in attendance running what was arguably their race of the year. Wade Prentice led early only to be overtaken by Doug McPhail at the halfway point of the event. From there McPhail and veteran Mark Cole swapped the lead a few times with some nice moves, resulting into Cole taking the lead for the final time with two laps to go to take the win. Jamie Glidden made a late race pass to finish second with Wade Prentice just sneaking by McPhail for third at the line. Sam Comeau was fourth and a disappointed quickly fading Doug McPhail was fifth.

The night concluded with an Enduro that went non stop with Frank Putney winning by over a lap.
