Waterbury, VT – The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced that it will sanction the Jean-Paul Cabana 125 at Quebec’s Circuit Riverside Speedway Ste-Croix on Sunday, June 2. The non-point, $5,000 (CAD)-to-win event will be the first time ACT has visited the 5/8-mile oval since 2015.
The event for ACT-type Late Models has been named in honor of Quebec racing legend Jean-Paul Cabana, whose storied career included 25 combined wins on the ACT Pro Stock Tour and NASCAR North Tour. It is being promoted by Martin Roy, who is also the promoter of Vallée-Jct., QC’s Autodrome Chaudiere.
The Jean-Paul Cabana 125 is scheduled for the day after the Claude Leclerc 150, which is part of the 2019 ACT Late Model Tour schedule. While the Riverside Ste-Croix event is a non-point event, it offers both U.S. and Quebec teams the opportunity for a rare weekend doubleheader in la belle province.
Both events have large purses on the line, making the weekend even more attractive for teams. The Jean-Paul Cabana 125 will pay $5,000 CAD to win and $700 CAD to start while the Claude Leclerc 150 has a posted purse of $5,000 USD to win and $500 USD to start.
“The Jean-Paul Cabana 125 is going to be a great show,” ACT managing partner Cris Michaud said. “Riverside Ste-Croix is a fantastic facility, and every time ACT visited in the past, both teams and fans came in force. It’s a chance for teams on both sides of the border to run an old-school doubleheader with purses that make it worthwhile. We expect many of the U.S. teams heading to Chaudiere on June 1 will be staying overnight anyway, and this presents a chance for them to run a second event before heading home and really make it a big weekend.”
The ACT Late Models are part of a four-division card at Riverside Ste-Croix. The Procam Super Truck Series will run 50 laps while Chaudiere’s Sport Compact Elite and Sport Compact Amateur classes have a combination 50-lap event with two separate podiums. The Jean-Paul Cabana 125 is now the third ACT-sanctioned event in Canada in 2019. In addition to this event and the Claude Leclerc 150 on June 1, the Bacon Bowl 200 at Autodrome Chaudiere on Saturday, August 17 will also be sanctioned by ACT.
The event continues a storied ACT history at Circuit Riverside Speedway Ste-Croix. The ACT Pro Stock Tour made its first visit in 1990 and held four events at the multi-track motorsports park that sits along the St. Lawrence River. Both the ACT Late Model Tour and Série ACT then picked up the torch and ran a total of 29 events at the facility between 1992 and 2015, including six U.S./Quebec combination events. ACT’s last trip to Riverside Ste-Croix was a combo event in 2015 won by Joey Polewarczyk Jr.
A 1:00pm post time has been set for the Jean-Paul Cabana 125. The pits will open at 8:00am. A rain date of Sunday, August 18 is already in place should there be inclement weather.
