Oxford Plains To Close Out Maine Season With PASS North Supers & PASS Mods
NAPLES, ME (October 16) – After a very competitive 19th season of action, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models and PASS Modifieds will run their final race of the season in Maine on Saturday afternoon as part of the PASS 400 weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway. In a year that began back in April, Oxford Plains has seen a variety of different PASS winners this year, including Garrett Hall, Curtis Gerry, and Travis Benjamin.
While Saturday afternoon will see PASS in the state of Maine for the final time until April 19, 2020, the championship fight will actually continue to the final event of the season at Massachusetts’ Seekonk Speedway later this month.
The battle for the Northeast’s most prestigious Super Late Model championship has come down to four drivers, all within 100 points of one another. New Hampshire racers, DJ Shaw and Derek Griffith, sit just nine points apart atop the standings as they head to Saturday afternoon’s Honey Badger Bar & Grill 150. 4-Time PASS North champion, Ben Rowe, is having one of his best seasons in recent memory, but will have to make up ground this weekend to have a shot at the championship at Seekonk. Defending Oxford Plains Speedway track champion, Gabe Brown, is having an excellent rookie season, sitting fourth in the standings. But, like Rowe, Brown will have to make up a lot of ground at Oxford Plains to have any chance at the title.
Griffith leads all drivers with five PASS North wins this season, including a long awaited win at Oxford Plains in the last series race there a month ago. Shaw has led the standings since a season opening win at Thompson Speedway in April, but has not gone to victory lane since early August when he took the checkered flag at Spud Speedway.
But, they will not be the only contenders vying for the win on Saturday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway. This year’s Oxford Plains track champion and 2017 Oxford 250 winner, Curtis Gerry, will be back at his home track looking to continue his mastery of the speedway. Multi-time track champions, Jeff Taylor and Tim Brackett, will also be in action as they seek their first wins of the year. 3-Time Oxford 250 winner, Travis Benjamin, will be looking for another win, along with fellow 250 winner Scott Robbins, and a strong group of contenders from Maine, Including Brandon Barker, Reid Lanpher, Shawn Martin, John Peters, Ryan Robbins, Jeff White, and Alan Wilson. John Salemi and Dan Winter will be coming from New Hampshire, while Vermont’s Bobby Therrien and New York’s Michael Scorzelli will also be competing.
Action gets under way on Saturday with practice starting at 10 AM, heat races at 1 PM, and main events to follow for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, ACT Flying Tigers, Street Stocks, and Bandits.
