Drellos Survives Flip and Penalty, Still Wins Devil’s Bowl Championship in Wild Finale
Kelly nips Scarborough for first win in thrilling finish
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Demetrios Drellos never planned to race full-time at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 2020, and he certainly did not plan to win the championship. He probably never planned to flip his car while trying to wrap the title up, either, but all of that came to pass on Saturday, September 26 in a Championship Night for the ages.
The Queensbury, N.Y., racer topped a list of divisional champions that included Johnny Bruno, Andrew FitzGerald, Chris Conroy, and Cody O’Brien. A fast, competitive dirt track surface resulted in spectacular feature wins for Marty Kelly III, Derek Bornt, Austin Comes, Hunter Sanchez, Josh LaPorte, and O’Brien, racing in front of a charged-up crowd on a warm, early autumn night.

Corliss, Therrien Both Ready for Another Piece of Milk Bowl History
Barre, VT — When the 58th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank goes green at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, October 4, two drivers will be on everyone’s short list of contenders. Barre’s Jason Corliss and Hinesburg’s Bobby Therrien have combined to win the last three Milk Bowls, making them the early favorites as “The Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America” draws closer on the calendar.
Both Corliss and Therrien have been drivers to watch every time they’ve showed up at Thunder Road over the past four seasons. Corliss has now won the last two “King of the Road” titles. Therrien captured the 2017 title and finished second to Corliss this year. The duo has six Thunder Road wins this year between them and split the track’s two American-Canadian Tour (ACT) events.
Now the pair again set their sights on one of the country’s most famous short track races. Both understand the importance of the Milk Bowl and the place it holds in Thunder Road annals.
“(The Milk Bowl) is such a prestigious race, and so much weight is put onto the race because it’s so difficult,” Corliss said. “It’s so hard to win or even just have a good run. And there’s been so much prestigious and nostalgia that’s gone along with this particular race. There’s just such a feeling going into the track on Milk Bowl Weekend. You get pumped up about it even if you’ve been in (Thunder Road) a thousand times before — there’s a certain energy the Milk Bowl brings that’s just special.”
Midsummer Classic Winner Moltz Ready for First Shot at Milk Bowl
Barre, VT — The winner of the richest point-counting race on the 2020 American-Canadian Tour (ACT) schedule is now aiming for an even bigger score. New Sharon, ME’s Dillon Moltz is the first official entry for the 58th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank on Sunday, October 4. The multi-time ACT winner will take his first shot at “The Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America”.
Moltz returned to ACT competition in 2020 following a two-year absence and has made a big mark in a limited schedule. The Connecticut native took home a $10,000 check for his triumph in the Midsummer Classic 250 at New Hampshire White Mountain Motorsports Park. He also led a large chunk of the Full Throttle 75 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway before a late spin.
Now the veteran and his RB Performance/Brackett Mechanical team turn their attention the Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank. Moltz has a 3rd-place and two 7th-place efforts in three starts at Thunder Road, showing he can get around the high banks.

Well-known regional racers and local heroes are eagerly throwing their names into the hat for “The Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America” at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, October 4.
With nearly two weeks still to go before race day, the early entry list is already filling up with regional ACT-type Late Model racers and Thunder Road stars. Many more names will be added over the coming days for the 58th edition of the nationally-known event.
Drellos Crate Engine Passes Inspection After Protest at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Championship Night ready for Saturday
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Demetrios Drellos has been officially declared the winner of the 30-lap Pepsi Sportsman Modified race held at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on The Stove Depot Night on Saturday, September 19. A protest was filed against the Queensbury, N.Y., driver’s General Motors “602 crate” engine following his fourth consecutive win at the Vermont track on Saturday night.
The team of second-place finisher Justin Comes posted the $500 protest bond required by the 2020 Devil’s Bowl Speedway rulebook following the feature race on Saturday night to have the Drellos engine inspected at an independent location. The engine was removed from the Drellos car at the track, impounded, and then delivered to Hunt’s Machine in Schenectady, New York.
