A new face out Jason Gray’s attempt to claim another win in the DIRTcar Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modifieds beats. Ryan Christian is the lucky dog this week, starting from sixth place he had the machine to beat, as he worked his way to the front to take over the point with ten to go. From there he sailed on to his first win of the season beating out Wayne Stearns and Jason Gray who made it to the final victory lane spot on the last lap. Kyle Ashford has his best run of the season holding on to fourth with Mike Ryan completing the top five.
Drellos Scores Big Win at Sold-Out Devil’s Bowl Mid-Season Championships
Double-points victory helps to inch point lead ahead
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – It seemed to be only a matter of time before Demetrios Drellos won a feature at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and the alarm bell rang loud and true on Sunday, August 3, at the double-points “Vince Quenneville Sr. Memorial” Mid-Season Championships. “The Greek Streak” headlined a busy night that also included wins by Johnny Bruno, Josh Coonradt, Andrew FitzGerald, Tim Simonds, Austin Chaves, and Cory Gray.
The event was a benchmark for the season at the Vermont track; not only did the race draw the first sellout crowd of the year in the pandemic-limited grandstand seats, the handicapper’s tower saw 163 racing vehicles signed in for competition.
Blake Dodges Late Carnage for Win on WDEV/Calkins Night
Four Racers Join First-Time Winner’s Club at Thunder Road
Barre, VT — Local racer Cody Blake combined a little speed with a lot of luck to score the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model victory at Barre’s Thunder Road on Thursday, July 30. Blake took the lead for the first time from Graniteville’s Christopher Pelkey on a restart following a massive crash with 10 laps to go and pulled away to win the 50-lap feature on WDEV Radio/Calkins Portable Toilets Night.
The second-generation racer spent much of the race in the back half of the top-10 while rookie Matthew Smith tried to pull the upset. Essex Jct.’s Smith grabbed the point from polesitter Kyle Pembroke at the drop of the green and eventually pulled out to a straightaway lead.
Just when it seemed Smith had the race in hand, Matt White and Chris Roberts spun on the front chute to bring out the first caution on lap-30. Although Smith easily held off Barre’s Jim “Boomer” Morris on the restart, recent Midseason Champion Scott Dragon went for a front stretch spin eight laps later to trigger another yellow.
Whittemore Scores Popular Upset at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Veteran earns first win at home track since 1995
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Everyone in attendance at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, July 26 became a Brian Whittemore fan – at least for one night. The veteran underdog driver scored an immensely popular victory in the headline Pepsi Sportsman Modified division, highlighting a roster of winners that included Evan Roberts, Kim Duell, Andrew FitzGerald, Michael Daniels, and Cody O’Brien.
Whittemore started on the pole in the 30-lap main event and broke out to an early lead, but Jack Speshock came calling on the outside lane at the one-third mark. Speshock took the point to lead laps 10 and 11, but he slipped out of the groove and crashed off the track in Turn 1 on lap 12, ending his race. Whittemore reassumed the lead and ran away from that point on with full support from both spectators and competing teams in the pit area.

Corliss Puts on Clinic for Third Straight Community Bank N.A. 150 Win
American Canadian Tour
Barre, VT — Hometown racer and defending “King of the Road” Jason Corliss crushed the competition at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road to take the Community Bank N.A. 150 for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) on Sunday, July 26. Corliss put on a high-banked clinic to lead all but one lap en route to his third straight victory in the event.
A near-perfect day for the 2019 track champion began in qualifying as Corliss earned the pole with a +4 under ACT’s “plus-minus” system. Starting alongside a fellow reigning titlist in 2019 ACT Champion Rich Dubeau of Plainfield, NH, Corliss quickly asserted himself at the front with Fayston, VT’s Brooks Clark moving into the number-two spot.
