American-Canadian-TourWaterbury, VT – The 2016 American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Models of New England head to the famous “Cement Palace” that the Venditti family has owned and operated for over six decades. This Saturday night, July 16, a 150-lap ACT Triple Header, round two event, will be contested with the best of the ACT competitors and the weekly racers from Seekonk, Waterford Speedbowl, and Thompson Speedway. The first of the three Triple Header events was won in a run-away by Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (Pole) at the Waterford Speedbowl in May. He also won his first race, and the last ACT race held at Seekonk, in 2007. He looks to become the spoiler in his limited schedule of 2016 events this Saturday night.

“It is a different mind-set when you are not in a title battle. Our team just has to concentrate on winning the race and not worry about the championship points. I miss the competition for winning titles, but after over a decade of chasing point standings, this is kind of fun just running for the wins. I just don’t want to upset what has turned out to be a very competitive title run for four or five teams, so that puts a little added pressure on us to try and get clear of their track action if possible,” said Pole.

As teams head to Seekonk, Massachusetts, just eighty points (80) separate the top five teams of the American Canadian Tour at the half-way mark of the 2016 campaign. During the first half of the season the top spot has been held by Bobby Therrien, Hinesburg, VT, Nick Sweet, Barre, VT, and Eddie MacDonald, Rowley, MA.

Advantage at the ¼ mile Seekonk bullring may go to three-time ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr., the only member of the top five in points who has raced at Seekonk. He is also the only member of the top five who has yet to win a race in 2016. The wild card is that there are a lot of Late Model experienced teams at Seekonk. The Speedway, along with White Mountain Motorsports Park, are two of the tracks running ACT Late Model rules longest throughout New England, for weekly racing. The race is the second of the newly designed triple header program which the ACT Late Model affiliate tracks joined together to create during the off-season. Waterford, Seekonk and Thompson Motorsports Park have all joined the effort to bring weekly and special event Late Model racing to the Southern New England market.

“ACT has always had two priorities, weekly racing at an affordable level, and using the same equipment also capable of running special long distance events from tracks like the 1/4 mile at Seekonk to the mile at New Hampshire. This triple header series is a step in the right direction, and we are seeing a good number of teams support this concept from the southern New England region. I am hopeful it will grow even larger over the next couple years,” said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour.

The 150 lap event has a post time of 6:00.
