Floyd Billington and Chris Donnelly Claim Feature Wins at Bear Ridge Speedway
The Green Mountain Gear-Heads Sprint Cars of New England rolled into Bear Ridge Speedway Saturday June 8th for double Features after being rained out in their last visit to the ¼ mile speed plant.
The Makeup Feature from May25th was up first and Floyd Billington took the top spot at the drop of the green with Jordan Fornwalt second. Billington clung to the low groove with Jordan Fornwalt challenging up top. Fornwalt took the top spot on lap six and started to build a sizeable lead, only to see it erased with a lap nine caution for a spinning Kurt Conklin. On the restart Billington blasted back into the lead relegating Fornwalt to second. Just a lap later Will Hull claimed the second spot and set his sights on Billington, who continued to hug the bottom groove. While Hull Reached Billington’s rear bumper he couldn’t find a way around him to take the top spot. At the checkers it was Floyd Billington with the win, Will Hull was second with Tyler Austin making a late race pass to annex the third position. Jordan Fornwalt was fourth and Rick Stone completed the top five.
It was an action packed night of racing at Bear Ridge Speedway with Double Features on tap for the Sprint Cars of New England due to weather issues earlier in the year along with Kids Rides and even a wedding at Intermission. And to top it all of it was Madness night for the 4-Cylinders who were running 3 28 laps segments for a purse of over $5200.00

Everyone knows that Promoter C.V. Elms will do everything in his power to get the show in. With a chance of rain coming later in the evening, there was really no choice but to try to get the show in. All divisions were able to get their qualifying heat races in. The Peanuts Auto Four Cylinders scored their event for the evening, as well as the Mike Estrada State Farm 4/6 Cylinder Enduro. The Wells River Chevrolet DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes got to lap thirteen before they were benched for the night.

Full Moons always spell disaster on race night, and so at the weekly drivers meeting the drivers were asked to please not make it a typical full moon madness night, and that is exactly what they did with both of the Ridge’s headline divisions going green to checkers in their main events!
Sometime starting position is everything, especially when the track is fast and there are no cautions waving to regroup the pack. Matt Lashua was the one to capitalize on just such conditions in the DIRTcar Sabil & Sons Sportsman Modifieds. Taking the lead on lap 4 he cruzed on for the win over Kevin Chaffee and Richie Simmons who simply ran out of time to set any hard challenges against him. Chris Donnelly in the Tim Tucker machine and Robert Tucker rounded out the top five.
The 2019 season for the Green Mountain Gearheads Sprint Cars of New England finally kicked off at Bear Ridge Speedway Saturday May 11th with a caution free 25 lap Feature Event.
