Maplewood and Irving to Sponsor Thunder Road Late Model Division

Barre, VT – Thunder Road officials announced today that they have signed a multi-year agreement with Maplewood Convenience Stores and Irving Oil to become the entitlement sponsors of the Thunder Road Late Model division. The agreement runs through the 2020 season and includes full naming rights to the track’s top auto racing class.

The Maplewood/Irving Late Models have been the lead division at Thunder Road since 1992 when the division was created. They were known at the time as the Late Model Sportsmen. The division competes under American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model rules.

Historic $10,000-to-win Sportsman Modified “Vermont 200” headlines 19-race calendar

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Vermont’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway has unveiled its highly anticipated 2018 stock car racing schedule, sparkling with a mix of 19 exciting weekly and special events. The Rutland County track, in its 52nd season, will return to full-time dirt racing on a half-mile surface for the first time since 2009, and competition will again be sanctioned by the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The biggest event in Devil’s Bowl Speedway history will be held on the weekend of September 15-16, with a race format never attempted before at any track: The “Vermont 200” for Sportsman Modifieds. The race, which will be open to any driver, is for Northeast-style Sportsman Modifieds with the “602 crate” engine package and will pay a minimum of $10,000 to the winner. At 200 laps in distance and with a record total purse estimated at $35,000, the race will be the longest, richest event ever held for the division at any track.

Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series to Return to Thunder Road in 2018

Barre, VT – Thunder Road officials have announced that Myers Container Service has signed a multi-year agreement to return as the title sponsor of the Triple Crown Series for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers. The series debuted in 2017 with Craftsbury Common’s Mike Martin capturing the inaugural championship.

The Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series in 2018 will once again consist of three 75-lap races for Thunder Road’s famed Flying Tiger division. All three events will award both Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series points and Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger track championship points. There will be a separate championship and point fund for the top finishers in the final Triple Crown standings.

PASS, NEMST to Headline “Milk Bowl Friday” at Thunder Road

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road officials announced today that both the Pro All Star Series (PASS) Super Late Models and the North East Mini Stock Tour (NEMST) have been added to the 56th Vermont Milk Bowl Weekend presented by Northfield Savings Bank in 2018. The two series will be part of a special “Milk Bowl Friday” event to be held on Friday, September 28.

It will be the second PASS North visit of the 2018 season to the Barre high banks, joining the Memorial Day Classic event that has been on the PASS calendar since 2015. For NEMST, they will make the trip to Thunder Road for the second time in their history and the first since 2013.

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road officials announced today that Allen Lumber Company has signed a multi-year agreement to return as the title sponsor for the track’s Street Stock class. The upcoming 2018 season will be the 26th consecutive year that the Vermont-based company has been associated with the Street Stocks.

Allen Lumber Company is one of the longest-running continuous entitlement sponsors at Thunder Road. They began their sponsorship of the Street Stocks in 1989 when it was an eight-cylinder division. After a one-year association with the Flying Tigers in 1992, they resumed their partnership with the Street Stocks in 1993 when it became a four-cylinder class.

Bear Ridge Speedway Honors 50th Season Champions

W Lebanon NH – Bear Ridge Speedway honored the champions from its 50th Season of dirt track stock car racing on Saturday December 2nd. More than 300 drivers, crew members, sponsors, fans, and officials filled a sold-out banquet hall at the Fire Side Inn W Lebanon NH for the gala, where more than $20,000 in prizes and point fund purses was awarded.

Derek Graham of E Woodsville NH headlined the guest list as the Sabil & Sons DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Champion. Graham beat out runner up Richie Simmons of Bradford VT claiming his first Bear Ridge Championship. Terry Williams of Wells River VT came home in third tied with Todd Buckwold of Canaan NH. Robert Tucker of E Corinth VT and Ryan Christian completing the top five.
