Scott MacMichael Takes Down Win Three
Winchester, NH: Scott MacMichael celebrated his third Sportsman Modified victory this past Saturday on the Victor Johnson Memorial Event after taking the lead on a lap 20 restart despite pressure from Todd Patnode. Tom Carey took the checkers for the Super Stock main event as did Mini Stock rookie Cameron Sontag. Other winners included Solomon Brow for his first career Young Gun, Lightning Stock Kyle Boniface and Marshall Usher in the Thunder Stocks. Veteran Dwight Jarvis show the Valenti Modified Racing Series how it is done taking the victory for their 100 lap feature event.
Dana Smith set the pace for the Sportsman Modified feature with Rookie JT Cloutier on the outside. Smith quickly took the lead as Cloutier and Kim Rivet ran single file behind him. On lap nine a caution came out as Nathan Johnson took a hard hit into the turn three wall after suffering a mechanical problem. On the restart, Smith regained the lead as MacMichael pressured him for the number one spot. A lap nineteen caution came out setting up the field for another restart where MacMichael took a good jump on the green to get ahead of Patnode bringing the inside line with him as Rivet moved into third. Patnode put the pressure on as Bill Kimball put the heat on Rivet for third. At the checkers it was MacMichael capturing the win, followed by Patnode, Rivet, Kimball and Brian Chapin.
Alyssa Rivera got a great start passing pole sitter Dave Striebel for the lead. The race was halted immediately on lap two when Geoff Rollins running third hit the wall as multiple cars headed to the pit area for repair. On the restart, Rivera continued in the number spot as Tom Carey III began the pursuit for the lead. Rivera held the point leader of Carey off until lap thirteen leaving Rivera a battle for second with Striebel. A battle for fourth brewed behind them between Ed Brehio III and Robert Hagar. As the final laps wound down, the top five safely got around a lap car to the checkers with Carey the victor followed by Rivera, Striebel, Brehio and Hagar.
In the Mini Stocks, it was a Young Gun graduate reunion as Justin Faford, Cameron Sontag and Joel Monahan making a pass on Eric Pomasko to all battle it out for the top three spots. Faford holding on strong despite hard challenges from Sontag lead the way as Monahan felt the heat from Stebbins attempting the high side and low side to take away the third spot. With two laps two go, Stebbins made his move to inside to take over third as the battle continued for first with Faford trying to protect the number one spot from Sontag. On the final lap into turn three, the two rookies of Faford and Sontag were wheel to wheel for the checkers. At the wave of the checkered flag it was Sontag claiming first with Faford on the outside of Sontag for second followed by Stebbins, Monahan and Chris McTaggart.
Matt Somerville led the way for the Lightning Stock main event for the first lap until a caution came out ending the night for Chris Davis and Pat Houle. On the restart, Somerville continued to the show the way as Kyle Boniface took over second followed by Tim Paquette. On lap five, Boniface took over the lead as Somerville was left to contend with Paquette for second. Paquette took over second and was on a mission to catch Boniface as Somerville still running strong held the pressure from Richard Whipple. As laps wounded down, Paquette did not have enough to catch the point leader as Boniface claimed his seventh win of the season followed by Paquette, Somerville, Whipple and Hillary Renaud.
It looked to be Randy McGee’s night in the Thunder Stock main event as he led first ten laps until a caution came out setting the field for a restart. On the restart, McGee took control of the lead spot for one more lap as Dave Greenslit got the run to make the pass leaving McGee with a mirror full of Marshall Usher. A few laps later, Usher makes the pass on McGee for second with former champion Ed Lofland looking to challenge McGee. With two laps to go, the leader of Greenslit is taken out by the lap car of Doug Guy ending his night with heavy damage. On the two lap shoot out, Usher took over the number one spot claiming his third win and padding his point lead as McGee, Lofland, Paul Barnard and Tyler Janovsky followed.
