Two big shows in one to end 45th racing season on Saturday

Bear Ridge Speedway’s 45th stock car racing season ends with a bang on Saturday with a double-bill for the 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series. The final three races of the third annual New England Dirt Track Championships presented by Perry Oil Service and 99ROCK, postponed one week by rain, will kick off the first-ever Vermont Crate Motor Nationals event. Racing begins at early start time of 5:00pm.

Twenty-six Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modified cars were on hand for qualifying heats at the New England Dirt Track Championships on Saturday, September 22 before heavy rain washed out the 50-lap, double-points main event. Fairlee, VT racers Adam Pierson and Kevin Chaffee are just 43 points apart for the Modified title; Pierson is trying for his third-straight and eighth overall Bear Ridge championship, while Chaffee guns for his first Modified title.

Also on the make-up slate are double-points New England Dirt Track Championship features for the A Notch Above Automotive Limited Late Model and Weglarz Property Service Fast Four divisions. Jordan Fornwalt of Bradford, VT leads the Limited Late Models by 43 points over Mike Greene, Jr., and Barre, VT’s Danny Doyle has 42 points on Tim Martin of White River Junction, VT.

The Vermont Crate Motor Nationals presented by Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank will begin immediately following the completion of the New England Dirt Track Championships. The Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modified division will qualify via time trials, followed by a random draw in which four, six, eight, ten, or zero drivers will be inverted at the front. A 30-lap segment will be run, followed by a 10-minute break for adjustments and a final 30-lap segment.

Similar formats will be used for the Wells River Chevrolet Sportsman Coupes, USAC Dirt Midget Association, A Notch Above Automotive Limited Late Models, Weglarz Property Service Fast Fours, and KDD NAPA Auto Parts Hornets. The Granite State Mini Sprints will also be on hand for their final event of the year.

While all drivers competing in feature races will receive the same number of championship points, qualifying will award points based on top speed and lap times – seven points to win the pole position, six points for second place, five points for third, four points for fourth, three points for fifth, two points for sixth, down to a minimum of one point for all racers. The qualifying outcome could potentially have championship implications.
