Ryan Vanasse wins the Crab Manchester LM Memorial. Darling, Martin and Negley visit Victory Lane

seekonkRyan Vanasse jumped behind the wheel of Bill Bernard’s team car and rolled to his first win in the LM division in over two years, like he never left. The two-time LM champion started fifteenth on the starting grid and used a couple of early cautions and some timely openings to battle for the win.

Branden Dion brought the field down and jumped out front until Dillon Moltz, looking for some redemption, moved around the rookie for the lead. Moltz held onto the lead through a couple of early cautions, including one that included Dillon Estrella and Gerry DeGasparre.

At the halfway point, Moltz started opening a sizeable lead, which went away after Bill Bernard spun with just 10 laps remaining. Vanasse had moved to third, and moved past Lineham for second. By this time, Moltz was fighting a right front tire that was going down, and couldn’t hold off The Rocket, as Ryan moved around the CT native for the lead with seven laps remaining. Ryan Vanasse, Gerry DeGasparre, Rick Martin and Bob Bettencourt pick up Seekonk checkers

seekonkRyan Vanasse sat in third spot with two laps remaining, but used a three wide move to pass Kyle Casper and Dave Darling to pick up his second win of the season. Kyle Casper jumped out front and took off from Mike Brightman to set the pace. Brightman had plenty of opportunity through restarts to squeeze past Casper, but struggled to stay with the Somerset Motor Cars Chevy. Vanasse and Brightman traded the second position back and forth through several restarts, but there was no getting to Casper.

Darling was able to move into second with six laps remaining, before a caution came out for fluid on the track. Once cleaned up, Darling and Casper raced wheel to wheel for the lead, with Darling edging out Casper on the 38th lap. Vanasse was looking, and as they came off the fourth corner, Casper drifted high, opening up the bottom lane. The trio raced three wide into the first corner, with Vanasse beating Darling into turn three. Fred Astle, who started scratch after qualifying problems, edged Casper for third. Brightman rounded out the top five.

Ryan Vanasse picks up second career Pro Stock feature at Seekonk Speedway

Bobby Pelland III, Mike Cavallaro and Paul Lallier also win

Warwick RI’s Ryan Vanasse has been one of the hottest drivers at Seekonk Speedway over the past three plus seasons. In that time, he has won two Late Model Championships, as well as over 15 feature wins, including a division record of 11 in 2011. This year, Ryan made the full time move back to the Pro Stocks, and has continued his momentum.

Ryan moved into the lead early on, after a hard fought battle with Tom Scully Jr, and held on to win the Pro Stock main event. His win was not without concern, however. While leading, he made contact with the lapped car of Danny Cabral. Many thought that he may have bent something in the front suspension. No damage was done, and he was able to hold on through a couple of late race restarts. Tom Scully Jr of Cranston RI held on for second, with Rehoboth’s Dave Darling, Westport’s Fred Astle Jr and Kevin Casper of Somerset rounding out the top five.
