BIG CAR COUNT, EMPTY STANDS, AS RACING RETURNS TO CLAREMONT

By Gary Dutton

CLAREMONT, N.H. – Racing is alive and well again in the Twin State Valley. Claremont Motorsports Park hosted its first event of the summer Friday, June 5, with more than 90 teams on hand to strut their stuff at the storied third-mile speedplant.

The pandemic-rules event played to an empty house – it was, however, televised – but otherwise went off perfectly, with a full field of Granite State Pro Stock Series teams providing the night’s main attraction with their series’ season-opening Let’s Go Racing 100-lapper.

Nutmeg State bomber Ray Christian III took charge late to win the GSPSS main event, duplicating his Claremont victory of last autumn, with hometrack stars Dave Greenslit, Kodi Sabins, and Eric Lanou also earning inaugural night victory laps.

Claremont Motorsports Park &GSPSS Return to Action

Claremont Motorsports Park will swing open the gates and return to action Friday June fifth. Three local divisions will be on the card competing in heats and features alongside the Granite State Pro Stock Series. Fans will not be permitted in the grand stands as the track follows state guide lines for social distancing, but the entire program can be seen via pay-per-view on speed51.

The RE Hinkley Oil Company street stocks will will contest a thirty-lap feature as one of the most exciting divisions in the northeast returns to action. David Greenslit won the track championship at both Claremont and Monadnock Speedway as he had a dream season in 2019. “I’m extremely happy to get back behind the wheel after far to long away from the track”, said Greenslit during a break in last minute preparations. “Mike (Parks) and the entire staff have worked their butts off and we want to put on a good show Friday night.”

GSPSS and Claremont Motorsports Park finally Going Racing

The Granite State Pro Stock Series and Claremont Motorsports Park are going racing… finally! June 5 at 7pm the sound of stock cars will return to Claremont NH as the facility will see competition for the first time in 2020.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, both the series and tracks schedules have been put on hold until now. Due to state of NH restrictions, fans will not be allowed in the grandstands but those wanting to witness this event will be able to do so via Speed51 pay per view. “We are really excited to be able to team up with our partners at speed51 and make this event happen”, stated series President Mike Parks. “While we wish we could have our loyal fans in the stands cheering our competitors on, it’s just not in the cards at this time.”

Claremont Motorsports Park May Schedule on Hold.

Claremont NH – The Month of May is usually the first full month of the race season in New England, unfortunately that will not be the case in 2020. As the country battles the Covid 19 pandemic, The Claremont Motorsports Park season, unfortunately is on hold. “The health and safety of our fans and race teams is our number one priority”, stated track operator Mike Parks. “As much as we want to be at the track every Friday night we will respect the directives of our Governor”.

The Tri Track Modified Series event scheduled for Sunday May 24th is also on hold for the foreseeable future. Several conversations have taken place between series owner Wayne Darling and Parks and once a solid time line is established every attempt will be made to reschedule.

“We are in a situation where we have more questions than answers. We want to get the gates open just as soon as we can whether that is for practice or competition” said Parks. “If we can come up with a way to work with the state and get open for practice we will do that”.

At this time the posted schedule has been put on hold with the intention of picking it up on the date permitted.  If for any reason something changes track officials will adjust accordingly.

During a break in recent track preparations Parks lamented, “this is not how we envisioned our first venture in season long track promotions. Hopefully the racers and fans will continue to stay positive and be ready to come back when the situation allows.”
