Picture perfect weather greeted the fans and competitors at White Mountain Motorsports Park for HK Powersports Opening weekend. Over 100 cars filled the pit area for Saturday’s car show and season-starter while the Pro All Stars Series invasion on Sunday afternoon put an exclamation mark on a showstopping start to the 2026 season.
It all began Saturday with a moment to reflect on the loss of track builder and founder Donnie Avery with all cars on display to mark the moment. Racing action started off hot and heavy with the Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division as Gracen Gorham, Maddie Potter, Evan Folsom and Kaden Wimble fought under a blanket nearly all 15 laps! Gorham slid by Potter in the closing laps to claim the win with Wimble keeping third.
The Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Strictly Minis opened the flood-gates to start the feature with Jacob Roy, Donnie Baumgardner and Tyler Thompson duking out for the top spot. At the halfway point Thompson flew out of the groove and into the turn one concrete, drove back the pit area and called it a night. Jacob Roy capitalized late to take the HK Powersports Opening Day win over Baumgardner and John Knight at the line.
WINCHESTER, N.H. – Jimmy Zellman stole the show Saturday on the high banks of Monadnock Speedway, passing four cars at the south end of the track with the awaiting checkers in the air to win a thrilling 50-lap Pure Stock main event.
With more than 80 teams packing the pits and a huge early season crowd on hand, Zellman was one of five different drivers winning their first event of the year Saturday at the historic quarter-mile, but none with the thrills that Zellman provided.
Qualifying out of the consi, the Greenfield, Mass. hot shoe started deep, deep, deep in the 24-car field and charged forward to lead only the final 200 feet of the 50-lap main and earn the $1,000 winner’s purse.
CLAREMONT, N.H/ – Brandon Gray won for the second time in as many weeks Friday night at Claremont Motorsports Park, roaring to a dormant victory in the Tour Type Late Model main event.
And if the East Thetford, VT star was red hot in making it two-for-two on the young season, so was another Green Mountain state ace, as Chris Riendeau made a thrilling last lap pass to win the Super Street feature and run his undefeated 2026 streak to three.
Chambers, Dillingham, Hull, Kenny, St. Amour, there have been many Vermont drivers basking in Pure Stock victory lane in recent seasons at the Thrasher Road speedplant, and Sunshine Town second generation hot shoe Carter Conroy has been there too.
Friday, Conroy scored one for the Granite Staters. The Newport driver won one for the home staters, topping a blockbuster 16-car field in his 25-lap feature event to bring bragging rights back to New Hampshire.
Star Speedway’s Coastal Clash 150 has been postponed from Saturday, May 9, to Sunday, June 14, due to forecasted inclement weather in Epping, New Hampshire. Officials with the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour and Star Speedway made the decision to reschedule the event after three consecutive races across different facilities earlier this month.
“It’s unfortunate that Mother Nature couldn’t see us through just one more weekend, but we’ve been incredibly lucky up to this point,” said ACT managing partner Cris Michaud. “To save teams the travel this was the best call to make and we’re looking forward to returning to Star Speedway on Sunday, June 14.”
The postponement means the Brookside Equipment Sales Triple Crown will feature back-to-back events starting with the 51st Spring Green at Seekonk Speedway on Saturday, June 6, followed by the Coastal Clash 150 at Star Speedway on Sunday, June 14. The Milton CAT series will next race on Sunday, May 31, at Riverside Speedway & Adventure Park in Groveton, New Hampshire, with additional series including the Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models and PASS Modifieds also set to compete.
Modified ace Tyler Leary scored a huge win Saturday on the high banks of Monadnock Speedway, topping the 75-lap Todd Martell Memorial Modified main event ahead of a deep field of open-wheel strongmen.
On a hoodies-up night when hot cocoa was much more in fashion than icecream that have long been a staple at the Winchester quarter-mile, the Hatfield, Mass. star was red hot, leading the last 36 laps en route to the big win.
Other winners on the first Saturday of May at Monadnock included JD Stockwell, who won a thriller in the Limited Late Model feature, Carlos Grenier, who was first under the checkers in the Pure Stocks, Randy Clark, victorious in the Pro 4 Modifieds, and Dylan Stati, who scored his first win ever in the Young Guns.
Chris Riendeau and Chris Chambers each scored their second win of the season Friday, May 1, at Claremont Motorsports Park. The victory kept Riendeau perfect on the young season at the Thrasher Road speedplant, while Chambers’ win was his second in three strong outings.
Joining the two Vermont aces in celebrating victories Friday were fellow Green Mountain Boys Brandon Gray and Trevyr Young. Only hometown hot shoe Kyle Templeton was able to prevent a Vermont sweep, as the two-time defending track Mini Stock champion romped to victory in his division’s first outing of the summer.
Stephen Donahue and Gray sat up front as the chilly night’s 50-lap Tour Type Late Model main event went green. Donahue, a close runner-up to 2025 titlist Aaron Fellows a summer ago, pounced on the opening lead, with Gray virtually glued to his bumper. The dynamic duo raced under a blanket for 38 laps, with Gray – the reigning speedway Super Street champ – apparently aboard the faster car, while Donahue remained laser focused on holding a perfect line. But on that lap, Gray dove low and under Donahue in turn one, taking the lead along the backchute and then blasting off to win by a country mile in the caution-free event.
