Hoar Soars to ACT win at Airborne
Martin Roy Grabs 3rd Modified Win
South Plattsburgh, NY – Brian Hoar led all 100 laps of the 36th Furniture World of VT Spring Green 100 before a big crowd at Airborne Speedway Saturday. Thirty-four ACT Late Models and 28 DIRTcar Modifieds were in the pits.
Martin Roy of Napierville, Quebec won the 30-lap Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified event. It was the third win of the year for the defending track champion. Roy took the lead from Jason Durgan on lap 15 and beat eventual runner-up Patrick Dupree to the line by six car-lengths. Vince Quenneville, who ran in the top-3 all night, had his best ever Airborne finish. Durgan and Greg Atkins took spots 4-5. Richard Tisseur, Don Scarborough, Maxime Viens, Leon Gonyo and Mike Reyell completed the top ten.
Hoar started on the outside pole in the Rick Paya Gossdodge.com No. 37. The defending champion and current point leader was closely pursued by Brent Dragon for the first half of the race and Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, NH over the final 50 laps. It was Hoar’s second Spring Green win. His first came in 1999.
Leighton got the jump on Hoar on a restart with 22 laps remaining and led nearly all the way around the Plattsburgh half mile before Hoar got a nose underneath at the line. The pair swapped the lead again navigating turns one and two before Hoar took the lead back for keeps.
John Donahue of Graniteville started eighth and finished third. Brent Dragon and Joey Polewarczyk completed the top five. Mark Lamberton of Mooers Forks was sixth. The race had six cautions including a tire check for abnormal tire wear for the whole field on lap 35.
Tylor Terry of Morrisonville won the J&S Steel Sportsman feature going away. Robin Wood passed Bill Sawyer for second with two laps left.
CJ LaVair of Gabriels won the Mini-Modified feature. Chad Provost of Peru won his first Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade feature, besting Cody Benoit and Dave Rabtoy.
Bill Joyal Jr. of Ausable Forks was the Monster Energy Bomber winner.
The ISMA Supermodifieds make their first appearance on the progressively banked Airborne half-mile this Saturday, July 17. Post time 6 pm. For more information, visit airborneparkspeedway.com or call 518-561-3208.
