Lowrey Earns Casella Night Feature Win at Thunder Road
Barre, VT – Charlotte’s Rich Lowrey earned his first feature win of the season and 8th career Late Model feature win at Thunder Road on Thursday, July 22. Lowrey came from the sixth starting spot to take the lead from rookie Cody Blake at the halfway mark. He then held off eventual runner-up finisher Nick Sweet on the final restart of the event on lap 29.
Lowrey and Sweet were followed to the line by Matt White, Phil Scott and Blake completing the top five. Point leader Dave Pembroke finished with a solid 6th with Reno Gervais, Cris Michaud, John Donahue and Joey Becker rounding out the top ten.
Middlesex’s Pete Ainsworth also took his first checkered flag of the season in the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen feature. It was also his 11th career Tiger Sportsman win. He started on the pole and held off Fairlee’s Troy Gray who settled for second and Brendan Moodie took third.
Tony Rossi and David Finck completed the top five. Point leader Eric Badore, Brian Delphia, Tom Therrien, Jimmy Hebert and Ricky Roberts rounded out the top ten. The Tigers ran their 35 lap feature with just one caution.
The Allen Lumber Street Stocks saw opening day winner Mike MacAskill of Williamstown return to victory lane for his fourth career Street Stock win. He just edged out Jean Leblanc who took second. Scott Weston, Thomas Placey, and Jamie Davis completed the top five. Ron Gabaree, Tim Campbell, Travis Hull, Gary Mullen and Greg Adams all earned top tens.
Barre’s Kevin Dodge earned his this Junkyard Warrior feature win of the season. He was followed by Ken Christman and Kevin Wheatley.
The “Nation’s Site of Excitement” will be back next Thursday, July 29 for WDEV/Calkins night featuring the infamous Porta-Pottie Grand Prix. All four divisions will also be in action. Qualifying starts at 6:30pm.
