It was another exciting night of racing at Big Daddy’s Speedbowl in
Wentworth NH. The weather was great and the track was fast. The racing
card for this week was the track’s 5 regular divisions plus the new
weekly invitational race for Granite State Mini Sprinters.
The feature race for the Mid-State Trucking Modified division stayed
green for its entire 20 laps. David “Mad Trucker” Heath (15) of Warren
came away with the Central Metals trophy, having led every lap. Rising
star James Capps III (64) of Penacook finished second, his first trip
to the podium, and Travis Shinn (11) of Groton, NH took third.
Another Warren driver, Marcus “Animal” Jenness (19), won the Camaro
Heaven Bandits’ feature in a borrowed car. Alicia Smith (88) of Center
Harbor led most of the race, but had to settle for second, followed by
Meredith’s James “Tumbler” Nutting (99).
Points leader Derek O’Hearn (14) of Campton again won the main event
for the Cutting Edge Graphix/Keyser Trucking Super Street class.
Second went to Jack “Wild Child” Whynot (27) Laconia and third was
Mark Brown (47) Rumney.
The Mike’s Automotive Late Model division was running for double
points tonight, after voting to run for no points last week, because
one of their strongest drivers, “Dangerous” Dan Collins (4) of W.
Cannan had a commitment and they didn’t want to hurt his championship
chances when circumstances were beyond his control. This week
another contender, Jamie Bezanson (13 1/2) of Concord developed engine
trouble during the heat and had to watch the feature from his trailer.
Rumney’s Brad Shanks won the event in his “Dirt Track Cadillac” (8),
followed by Mike McClay (82) of Holderness and “Dangerous” Dan.
Center Harbor’s Matt Morrill (9) won a hard-fought OE Parts Direct
Mini-Stock feature over Taylor Fletcher (27) of Laconia and Dana
Whiting (04) of Peancook.
The evening finished with a 50-lap enduro for 4 and 6 cylinder cars.
Chris Kirk (78x) completed the 50 laps first. Second went to Mike
Brown (07) and third was Josh Atwood (08).
Join us this coming week at Big Daddy’s Speedbowl when we run on
Sunday September 5 at 4:00pm due to a earlier schedule commitment to
Sprint Cars of New England (ScoNE). The mighty 360 winged sprinters
are running a special three day Triple Crown event with races on
Friday night at Canaan Fair Speedway, Saturday night at Bear Ridge
Speedway, and on Sunday at Big Daddy’s Speedbowl. The Triple Crown
winner will be determined by the combined points of the three nights
of racing. Along with the ScoNE sprint cars, our regular 5 divisions
will be in competition. Remember, next week is a Sunday race for this
one week only.
