JOSH SYLVESTER WINS RELIABLE WELDING AND SPEED SK MODIFIED® ROOKIE OF THE YEAR HONORS AT STAFFORD SPEEDWAY

(Stafford Springs, CT)—For the second time in his racing career, Josh
Sylvester has become a Reliable Welding and Speed Rookie of the Year winner.
Sylvester previously was the 2007 SK Light Modified Rookie of the Year and
he is now the 2010 SK Modified® Rookie of the Year, outlasting a pair of
former SK Light Modified drivers in John Montesanto and Michael Gervais, Jr.
For the season, Sylvester drove to 1 top-5 and 5 top-10 finishes this season
to finish in 16th place in the SK Modified® standings.
“I didn’t really consider myself a rookie,” said Sylvester. “This was my
third season driving an SK car and we ran the Fall Final race at Stafford
last year, so we knew what we were getting into.”
Sylvester and the #21 Silberman Heating and Cooling team began the year with
a near top-10 as they finished 11th in the season opening Spring Sizzler,
but they struggled to get a good finish until the SK Modified® 100, where
Sylvester earned his first top-10 finish of the year with a 7th place
finish. Sylvester and the team caught fire towards the end of the season
with 3 of their 5 top-10 finishes coming in the last 5 races of the year,
including their season best finish of 5th on September 10th.
“It was a bit of a frustrating season,” said Sylvester. “We didn’t
accomplish all of our goals this year, but it was nice to be able to win the
rookie title for the guys on the crew. We had one top-5 finish this year,
but I felt like we had a couple of races where we should have finished in
the top-10. Normally, I was helping my brother Zach and working on his car,
and it was a lot of fun to be able to race with him this season.”
Sylvester will not return to Stafford with the #21 team for the 2011 season
as he will move back to his own car and run limited events while again
helping his brother Zach with his SK effort.
“I’ve parted ways with the #21 team,” said Sylvester. “I’m going to run
some limited shows next year with my own car. We’ll run some True Value
races and some SK races, and I’m definitely going to be helping my brother
again witih his car.”
Sylvester will officially be crowned the 2010 Reliable Welding and Speed SK
Modified® Rookie of the Year at the 41st Annual Stafford Motor Speedway
Champions Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 19 at the La Renaissance
Banquet Facility in East Windsor.
