AFTER ONE YEAR HIATUS, BRETT GONYAW TEAMS WITH SILBERMAN RACING FOR 2011 SK MODIFIED® SEASON AT STAFFORD SPEEDWAY

(Stafford Springs, CT)—With the 2011 NASCAR racing season on the horizon
at Stafford Speedway, teams have been busy preparing their cars and one of
the newest combinations that will be on the track in the SK Modified®
division is a reunion of sorts. Brett Gonyaw will join the Donald Silberman
owned team, which won Rookie of the Year honors last season with Josh
Sylvester behind the wheel.
Gonyaw briefly piloted the Silberman car at the end of the 2009 season,
recording one top-10 finish over the final three races of the year. This
past season saw Gonyaw serve as a crew member on the Silberman machine,
while he also helped out Joe Allegro, Jr. With prior experience both
driving and working on the Silberman car, Gonyaw is excited about his
prospects for the 2011 season.
“We’re all really excited to go racing this year,” said Gonyaw. “The car
has been to the chassis builders and back and now we’re just waiting to fire
up the motor and go racing. Don’s a great guy, we get along really well,
the crew guys are great, hopefully we can click and have a great season
together. I think it’s going to help with being familiar with the car and
the guys that work on the car. We had a top-10 finish when I raced the car
a couple years ago and Josh had some really good runs last year, so we’re
looking to keep that streak going this year.”
While most drivers will have a specific set of things they want to
accomplish in a new season, Gonyaw has a simple list of goals that he is
looking to check off in 2011. In two partial seasons at Stafford, Gonyaw
has started a total of 10 races with 2 top-10 finishes and Gonyaw is looking
to improve upon those totals this year.
“In my career, I haven’t had a lot of success at Stafford, so we just want
to keep the car in one piece and make the full season,” said Gonyaw. “We’re
looking to consistently finish in the top-10 and maybe some top-5’s. If we
can do that and if we’re going good during the season, we can set some
higher goals for ourselves.”
Having both driven and worked as a crew member on the car should put Gonyaw
and the Silberman team ahead of the curve at the start of the 2011 season.
“It’s the same car and equipment that Josh drove last year, we’re just going
to put a different setup in the car,” said Gonyaw. “My driving style is a
little different than Josh’s, so we’re going to try to work off of our ’09
notes when I drove the car the last three races. If that doesn’t work for
us, we can always go back to Josh’s notes from last year.”
Gonyaw will make his 2011 SK Modified® debut at the season opening CARQUEST
Tech-Net Spring Sizzler, which is scheduled for April 29-May 1. The SK
Modifieds® will be joined by the Whelen Modified Tour as well as Stafford’s
other four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. Tickets for the
“Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are on sale now at the Speedway Box
